Saw the Borg avatar by Mrs. X and figured it was time to come out of the closet

I love Star Trek The Next Generation

It's a bit sad, I realize that, but I need to know...

WHO's WITH ME?

I confess I do have a soft spot for certain sci-fi, and I would guess I have seen every episode of every Star Trek series and every movie. Many of them, multiple times. They are always showing reruns of the various series around the time I am making and eating dinner and I always check in on them and refresh my memory.

Some nerdy comments:

The Next Generation - It had highs and lows. My favorite episodes were the ones involving Klingon politics and the arc with Worf's discommendation (sp?). Patrick Stewart is the best actor any of the series had IMO.

Deep Space Nine - It had some very good patient plot arcs. It also had some serious mis-steps (alternate universe, most things Ferengi) but overall was a very good under-rated series. The war with the Dominion was excellent. It was good in its own right and then they got the Klingon politics which I love in there too. That war was the highlight of all the series for me.

Voyager - Great premise, the best of any of the series. The long-term development of 7 of 9 was a highlight. I hated the hell out of Neelix and, to be honest, was not a big Janeway fan.

Enterprise - Like most people, it was my least favorite of the sequels but I don't think it was bad.

Original - What can you say? It looks dopey now - often unintentionally funny - but it was good for its time.

Personally I rate DS9 and Voyager above TNG.

After Muddy's comment in his TV/Moives thread I figured this needed to be bumped

We haven't gotten nearly deep enough into this discussion, and there are some huge nerds here so let's go

Speaking of getting deep into something can we talk about Deanna Troi's camel toe? Because I contend it was THE BEST camel toe of the early 90's

Now THIS, to me, is inappropriate

The one time I went to a taping of Letterman, Brent Spiner was a guest. There was a new Star Trek movie coming out.

Letterman sez to Brent Spiner, "So what is your role in it?

Brent Spiner sez, "Data the android."

Letterman already knew that and Spiner knew he knew.

Little dry humor there.

I've never ever watched Star Trek. I've seen it on TV a million times, but it never hooked me for even a second. I've seen both JJ Abrams movies, which I thought were unremarkable.

If one were willing to start exploring the Star Trek TV series right now, where would one start?

My personal opinion is that you start with The Next Generation but I am slightly in love with that series over the others. And, season 1 wasn't my favorite, it gets better as it goes. The mid seasons are the best. I'd say it gets better around season 2 but obviously you'd want to start from season 1. Any of the holodeck themed episodes are good, all the episodes with the Borg or Q are good. Housepicks recommends watching from start to finish.
