Your family is not that bad from my point of view. Your nieces are beautiful. Sister can't be all that bad if she's raising two happy, healthy kids. Mom's living the high life with bible study and knitting groups in San Diego. It can be a lot worse. They are part of who you are.
I myself get a bit stressed out when spending time with family. Don't know why, it may be just the culture we live in.

They're on good behavior because there are other people around now. Today, save for a few minor incidents went relatively smoothly.

I did tell my sister that I was sorry if I was coming off as harsh to her sometimes. I basically said what you just did, that her kids are good kids that obviously love her very much, so she's got to be doing something right. Helene is happy as a clam in SD and can't wait to get back to her idyllic life. I am happy for her.
