Trying to figure out the deal with Don Draper and the waitress. Seems like they're going out of their way to show there is no chemistry between them. I wonder what they are getting at.

I was giving this some further thought. Maybe they aren't trying to highlite the lack of chemistry and the soulless connection and what that would mean to character development and whatnot.

Maybe it's just 2 weak actors.

Poor actress who was asked to come in with like 6 episodes to go in the series.

You'd figure they'd spend more time resolving other characters' plot lines. Always thought that Pete Campbell's story arc would have crazier ups and downs.

But no, it seems like it's gonna be all Don all the time. Which is totally fine.

Maybe stop bringing in new characters though. You gots other shit to do. Just a thought.

The fuck? I didn't know that.

You people need to do a better job of getting me the info I need in a timely fashion.

It's funny. I was noticing advertising for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 this week and my reaction was, "Really? Wasn't that impossibly terrible? I thought everyone hated that and it went nowhere. And now, a sequel?"

But I could be getting my wires crossed. I think there was also some other terrible Mall Cop movie right around the same time (with Seth Rogan???) Maybe that was the really terrible one and Paul Blart actually found a place for itself (although obviously not with me).

Anyhoo, just checking the movie reviews for the week including Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. One of the chilliest receptions I recall seeing.

Historical level hate for that one.

Mr. Turner (2014) - for me, this is all about an incredible acting performance by Timothy Spall. The movie itself - which is a biopic of British seascape artist William Turner - is nice enough. It's an eccentrically told view of an eccentric character. There are some puzzling choices made of what to show and the movie steadfastly refuses to explain itself - which I think I admire.

As far as rewatchability based on the subject matter ---> middle of the road at best.

But the performance by Spall is spellbinding. The absence of an Oscar nomination is unforgivable and really, he would probably have my vote to win. He did win several European awards including Cannes.

Whatever. Each individual knows how important acting is to them. If you absolutely have to see the great performances, you have to see this movie. If it is more of an afterthought factor, Mr. Turner would be lower on the priorities.

6.4 out of 10.

I enjoyed the latest Mad Men episode a lot. I hate to go straight to a negative but I have to.

That scene where they were in Betty's front foyer with Betty and the daughter and the boy from down the street where they used to live (names are escaping me at this early morning hour.)

Point being, oh my gawd, that was some of the most conspicuously bad acting I can ever recall seeing in a real actual thing. It was like a 9th grade drama class. I was half expecting them to all break out laughing and turn to the camera and say they were just kidding - and say, "Hahah, okay this is what the scene really looks like," and then do it again, except with acting.

Otherwise great episode though IMO.

I need others opinions of G of T episode tonight! Scale of 1-10? Could it be speeded up a bit or maybe it's just me?

I dunno. I give it about a 6.2 - which is a bit lower than my rating of the series as a whole but not a ton.

It had the level I have come to expect of gabbing and scheming and discussing philosophical issues for lack of a better term. It was more about laying groundwork for action than actual action but that is necessary and I found it okay.

I'm a little puzzled by blondie getting so entrenched in Mereen (??) She has a very specific mission which does not include that. While some issues they bring up there are somewhat interesting, it feels to me like a time filler that serves no actual purpose.

It feels like conspicuous stalling.
