I didn't actually say the Shameless premier was solid, just that they did a good job with their lead-in recap which was chock full of helpful reminders and whatnot. I hadn't seen the episode when I posted that.

But I guess the whole deal was solid enough. There were times in the early seasons when Shameless was on an episode-by-episode basis with me, but I would say it is now as settled as it has ever been in my rotation.

So I dump Girls like 5 episodes ago and everybody is getting all uppity and expounding on my inadequacies that must lead to my not being able to UNDERSTAND it.

And now this.

Oh youse guise.

Show was still solid when you quit. It's quite a bit shittier now. Reno's right, it's too much of a soap now, it's lost its dirty post-postmodernist magic.

I don't watch a lot of movies, but for obvious reasons would like to see Still Alice. I see Julianne Moore just got a golden globe for best actress for her role in it. It opens Friday. If anyone sees it, let me know what you think. It may be a while before it gets here. Is there a way you hooligans get movies that are out in the theater and are able to watch them before Netflix etc? I think there is, but I don't pay much attention to those conversations. If anyone could enlighten me, it would be appreciated.

Tried to give Star Wars another shot. I don't think I've ever watched any of the movies from start to finish.

A New Hope is playing on my TV right now and I have no idea what's going on and I don't care.

Fok this shit.

Hmmm. Well I have watched the first 2 episodes of Transparent, which is the show that won the Golden Globe for best comedy series.

It's an Amazon original series by the way. So that's a thing.

I feel like I should introduce Transparent as the show that beat out Louie. But Louie the show wasn't nominated. But Louis C.K. was nominated for acting. Whatever world that makes sense in.

Anyway, my first point would be Transparent is not funny. It doesn't particularly try to be funny. It has less conscious attempts at humor than any of my favorite dramas.

So setting aside any expectation of that, - it's okay. It has had relatively few missteps. I realize as I type this how many shows I ditch not so much because of bad concepts, but because of missteps. Eyeroll moments. Writers/directors trying to do tricks and call attention to how clever they are.

On the other hand there has been little in the way of standout moments.

I feel like it's a show that wants to come up with some really really thoughtful moments about the bravery of being true to yourself and whatnot. Maybe that will be its stock in trade. Poignancy. Not so far though, not really.

I'm going to try another episode or 2 at least. Smart money says I won't stick with it but it's not out of the question. I could possibly grow to be interested in the main character. The peripheral characters are more dubious.

Sorry that this pic contains a bit of a spoiler but I think it's pretty common knowledge about the show and it comes out in the first episode.
