I'll tell you something though, this job of mine ---> it ain't just a case of strolling in and casually hanging around and collecting paycheques. It's serious stuff.

I had two wouldn't-call-them-total-nightmares-but-bad-enough-dreams this week that were clearly 100% about work. One was about making a shitload of errors - which is a constant fear - and one was a drama involving cherry picker traffic that ended in me losing my machine over a big ledge. And there it was, lying on its side, way below.

Shit is deep in my head.

This ain't no party
This ain't no disco

I think this is going into the novel too. I mean, I understand you're gonna have to write in details and put in some perspective, but it's going:pikachu:

Kinda interesting, my job progression.

I moved from UPS packing to UPS picking - which is driving a cherrypicker machine - but it has been very gradual. I have been a swing guy where I do some of both every day. Back and forth as needed. I have no problem with that in principle - in fact I like it - good variety and whatnot - except that everything is so numbers oriented, I haven't had a chance to see where I stand on my new picking role. There is definitely a learning curve. It takes time to get up to the production standard of 320 lines/day.

I enjoy that process of continuous improvement and working towards a goal. But circumstances have not allowed me to fully sink my teeth into it.

I was actually doubting myself a bit. The best I had done was ~220 lines - which is a long way off. Granted I had not had a full day doing nothing but picking but still, it was hard to imagine how I could pick up 100+ lines.

I was questioning if I am just too patient and polite. Some of the really fast guys almost seem like they're foaming at the mouth they're in such a rabid hurry as they speed around. That is not my style. Maybe I am not cut out to be a picker.

Anyway, I finally had a full day on Thursday. BOOM! ---> 300+ lines. I'm almost there. And that is actually superfast to get to that point as the expectation is like 4 weeks to reach production. I am almost there after ~15 half days.

I repeat, BOOM!

I actually gotta go on a mini-diet for a couple weeks.

Apparently the calorie burnage on the cherry picker is less than the UPS packing - but the eating habits I developed while packing - i.e. chocolate with every meal - one continuous 2 hour snack every evening ----> it no longer lends itself to weight maintenance. I am bloating out.

Nothing radical but need to drop ~8 pounds to be back at optimum. And then alter the daily habits to maintain.

Yap.

What continuous snack are you having for two hours?

Who me? I ain't lyin'. I could not gain weight when I was doing the UPS packing.

Evening snacks started like an hour after dinner and just carried on till whenever. Could be any combination of ice cream followed by licorice allsorts followed by cheesies followed by pretzel bits, cakey cakes, dry roasted peanuts, wine gums.

There is a new Decadent popcorn product which is pretty damn good. It's got a chocolate and raspberry drizzle. Could polish off a big bag of that between things.

Looks like I'll have to change my ways though. I still get quite a bit of calorie burnage - but not completely insane.

Prolly be looking at one snack per evening going forward.
