If you lay -3 -145 instead of -3.5 -110 and they win by 3, you still made the worse bet.

If it's a college football or basketball game I would lay the extra 1/2. If it was pro football or basketball I would avoid the play altogether.

That doesn't make sense to you I'm sure but it coincides with what I was telling Mikey in the previous post.

Focker, I stated in my original post that I don't buy points. That doesn't detract from the question of you guys with multiple outlets using that not primarily but partially to find a better line that enabled you to avoid buying the hook. Nor does it take away from asking others opinions or practices on buying up or down.

Just because I ask a question to generate discussion doesn't mean there isn't something to learn from the discussion at hand. It also doesn't mean that something in the potential discussion wouldn't shed some light on something I or someone else hadn't thought of.
