The was a Florida Rural Water rep that we called last week to get information about the job in question that is in attendance here at training. The guy who we were told was retiring talked to him yesterday after classes and so now the guy knows everything.
At least he knows and he knows in a way that can't be a problem.
Now obviously he is pissed with his city manager and the shit will hit the fan when he gets home Thursday.
His city is trying to cut cost and no doubt contract operations on the surface appears to do just that but what these idiots don't understand is even with myself a contract job doesn't give you the benefit of having a full-time operator and when there is ANYTHING outside the guidelines of the contract it will cost the utility way more than they would be paying an operator. On paper we could cut their cost by $20,000 a year but in truth it would probably cost them more in the long run.
