Well everything was going great but then we got to the "programmed" part of the interview. They have a formal selection program they are using. I have seen them many times before but I am out of practice.

Basically what they do is ask you a series of questions in the theory of "using past behaviors to predict future behaviors." There are about 10 scenario questions in a row. They are poorly conceived and poorly worded.

Like an examples might be:

Can you think of a situation where your efforts helped a customer to be happy with the results they got from your company and what did you do and how were they happy?

Except the questions were about 4 times as wordy. And they're completely vague. Like basically every single thing I did on jobs was focused on making customers happy - but I'm assuming you don't want me to just say I shipped an order and there were no mistakes. There is some nuance you are looking for but it is not obvious in the wording.

My problem is I tried to decipher what they're really looking for and give an honest answer. What is really called for is just some bullshit story. Next time I run into that kind of interviewing program I will be sure to have some heroic bullshit stories at the ready.

As I say, I am out of practice at this stuff.

If I am understanding correctly, they are interviewing 20 people for this warehouse position!!! I feel bad for the HR chick having to go through that over and over. My interview took over an hour.

Anyway a couple candidates will be called back for second interviews next week.

Maybe I did okay. I feel like I could have done WAY better but who knows what other shleps she's having to talk to? We'll see.

The hiring process out here is alot more my style.

Basically you have to show up. That is 99% of the process.

After living in Toronto for so long I found it very enjoyable looking for work out here - definitely an employee's market - employers can't get enough workers.

I know they are bringing in Mexican (like from Mexico) cement finishers for the season when they start pouring concrete at the mine expansion in a few weeks.
