Last week the trainer girl had me doing a lot of stuff with a resistance band on the wall (rows/curls/pushups) etc...my arms shaking and my neck felt unstable for a lot of it. Then we walked around the track with free weights above our heads. Didn't notice anything til like 4 days later.

now my shoulder/arm/neck are killing me. I can barely raise my arm...even a little. It feels really fucked up. When I kind of circle it around, I hear a popping sound. Hurts to sleep on it.

Any ideas what this is? Can a shoulder hurt this bad without being something like a rotator cuff tear/dislocation or something? Any recommendations on how to make it feel better or should I go to a doctor? Never had an issue with my shoulder other than regular fatigue type stuff.

Looks like a few of you had shoulder injuries. Did you ever get an MRI Blitty? I just skimmed the thread, but looks like you were having a problem. I know nothing about shoulders.

Injuries suck.

plommer is right.. sounds like a tumor.. in that area, you probably only have weeks to live... do you have a Will? am i in it? is plom in it? seems to me that the people that are confirming your early death, should reap some rewards

seriously,if its not muscular(which it still could be) then its the shoulder joint... get some glucosamine with msm and some JointFlex cream... there is a pic in Houses thread about protein

RayRayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

It's still killing me and now so is my neck. I am sure I signed something assuming liability for injury, but I have no doubt it in my mind that her carelessness caused whatever is going on. I'm going to make an appointment to see an orthopedist next week.
I can't see being able to lift any amount of weight ..especially above my head on that side in some time

I have some Glucosamine here, but like Cami, never take it. Will that help me even after injury?

Saw doc today. Diagnosis appears to be Shoulder Impingement Syndrome. It's an actual syndrome It's also called just bursitis or tendonitis, but I like the sound of Shoulder impingment syndrome better. Caused by making repeated overhead movements...i.e. trainer having me carry those damn weights above my head.

Gave me a cortisone shot...tried to sell me on physical therapy, but after I told him time was an issue, they had me talk to a p.t. guy for 20 minutes..he gave me a few at home exercises and sent me on my way. We'll see..not sure how long this shot is supposed to take...no better yet.

If time doesn't heal it, they can do a surgery I guess.

you have tendonitis of the shoulder...its no different than tennis elbow... it goes away if you just dont do the motions that hurt the most...you can do other exercises with it... just do real slow reps...

go to wal mart and get some JointFlex creme and apply a few times a day...and ice it when ever you can...

Rayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. It fucking still hurts. I'm scared to do any exercises and make it worse. I feel like forcing it in a certain direction can't be good for it. Is it good to do things that cause pain? Is that part of the healing?

I have to admit, I haven't iced either. I was waiting for the cortisone shot to kick in, and it hasn't at all. I really disliked the doctor (he was an hour plus behind schedule and you could tell) Got the bill and it was for over $600. Not sure why they billed me before they even got the EOB from insurance company yet. In any case, am I wrong to be resting it ....I am a wimp with pain.
Btw, the other one hurts periodically too, but not nearly as bad..just kind of an achy thing...but it is mobile.
I'm tempted to get a 2nd opinion.

I can't believe I just woke up like this one day. It didn't hurt during the actual workout. Will getting massages help?

Yeah pretty much... I went and got a massage today. The girl gave me some good advice and though she hurt me like HELLLLL, I think it did some good. I'm going to go back to her next week. I would rather pay her then the lame-0 doctor or p/t person.

Protect your shoulders people.

i was going to say that i would be willing to bet that 1. you havent bought any of that JointFlex creme and 2. you havent been icing it... you are only prolonging the inflammation by not treating it with those... i dunno if the deep massage is really good for that kind of injury or not...im sure the massage lady told you it was good for it, but then again, they are going to tell you whatever you need to hear to get you back on the table :dunno:

Well she explained the medical stuff better than the doctor or the physical therapist. She gave me some exercises that were the same as the p.t guy too... She put some hot/freezing cream stuff on there too which is supposed to be good for it. It was not a relaxing feel good massage..it hurt like hell..she was pressing into my arm pit area which I have never had done, but she seemed to understand shoulder physiology. She also told me no way I should have been carrying that much weight above my head like that...and right or wrong, I liked that validation. I'm a sucker. That's why I can't go look at cats. I'll work on the icing. And I'll look for the Joinflex cream too.

did you get a read on the label of stuff she was rubbing on you? probably BioFreeze... its a shit ton better than icyhot and loaded with arnica and menthol, but i still get better reliefe from jointflex.... its probably in the 10buck range and to be honest, if you are going to be a hardhead and steer clear of icing (sissy) then the Biofreeze is a better option... it has more of that hot/cold effect

Well I went and saw this guy who came highly recommended and had good online reviews. He was over an hour behind...very rushed and curt. It really seemed like he had utter disdainfor me from moment 1. It was really odd...something I had never experienced before. I did not plan to go back to him but finally decided I didn't want to start over and that he was probably just having a bad day on visit 1.

visit 2 he came in and immediately asked me if the cortisone shot had worked. I said no, not at all..then he immediately told me there was nothing he could do for me. Said it was my neck (with confidence) that was causing the pain. Looked annoyed when I asked questions..I said "I don't think we are getting anywhere" as it was really awkward..I can't even describe it. He said "no we are not getting anywhere" and basically walked out. I think I was there MAYBE 3 minutes. 5 tops. This visit cost me $70 co pay. I left in tears and went to hospital fast track orthopedics where they diagnosed me as something completely different but did mri to make sure. Yesterday I get a certified letter notice in the mail with return address as the doc place. I had missed the mail so I called them to ask about it. The receptionist said that the letter effectively said that they were dismissing me as a patient effective 8/11. I assume more info will be in the letter. It was the fucking strangest thing ever.

The ONLY thing I can think of is that I wrote a scathing review of him on Angie's list after visit 1 but that would not explain his behavior on visit 1. I am a very pleasant person and patient and have never had anything like this happen before. I am anxious to see the letter. It should come today. Certified letters are never good.
