I am doing a budget

I use a Brita filter for my water. I would bet very large money that I don't change it as often as recommended and so I am basically drinking tap water a lot of the time.

That's fine. It's free and, if there actually was a problem with it - which I don't think there is - but if there is - that's okay because - as previously discussed - I hope to die someday.

My refrigerator has a filter so we make ice cubes and drink water from tap water. We also have a filter on the sink faucet for water we cook with.

However, we buy bottled water for use when we go outdoors. It's done more for the convenience of the package especially when you have two young kids. We also use bottled water on trips. I also drink bottled water at work due to the 125 year old city of Atlanta water pipes. Just remember the water may be safe when it's in the water treatment plant but it can be contaminated on the way to your house via old pipes.

I bought a meal for $3 today using a coupon. I was just thinking the other day why pay $5 advertised price when I can use the coupon. The coupon was worthless if thrown in trash but it was actually worth $2 if used to buy food. Now I will not throw coupons away from newspaper but try to use them.

So the first month of budgeting is complete. Spent $177 more than I took in. That is very close to the cost of my driver's licence renewal and new sticker - not counting the emission test.

So I am kind of right on budget - basic spending is equal to income - just as long as I never need anything.

Curious about the concept of living on $10 a day for food - not that that was an explicit goal - but just kinda wonder where I landed compared to that $300 per month ideal . . . .

Hmmm, $347 and change.

And actually that is not just food but groceries. Which includes toothpaste and dish sope and whatnot.

I did not integrate the No Frills store into that fully for the whole month so room for improvement.
