lets just stop with the hype and slogans. Treat people as though we have brains. Explain to the public what can/needs to be done to help and be specific.
It feels like the charities are just another business creating hype and feel good baloney off of someones misfortune.

I'm sure if you asked them they would tell you. You seem to have a very cynical outlook on them, Reno. Most charities are driven by people who have been signficantly effected by their cause and their operating expenditures, program expenditures, CEO salary, etc. are public record by nature of their tax-exempt status.

I have a question.

How is Rake able to come in with his first post and get 4 pages of responses of replies right away?

Didn't it take Durito over a year to start one that went to page 2?

Love you Reeto!

maybe it would be good if charities were made up of people who are actually doing something about a problem, as opposed to fund raising professionals. I guess wealthy housewives and celebrities would have nothing to do if they couldn't hold fundraisers and stick their names to some popular sounding cause.

Why do you assume that they are only fundraising? It's a crucial part of their existence, but it's not entirely what they do. Without donations, they don't exist. Again, you can see how much of their resources are committed to it.

I don't see the problem with people helping - especially celebrities. They aren't getting paid for it. So what's wrong with them lending their name recognition if it can help draw up some more money for their cause?

nothing wrong with it per se, but why is all that fluff necessary? Are we supposed to care about things because a celebrity does? It's kind of insulting. They should be looking to find something hands on to do, or at least donate their own money to someone who does. ( I realize that many athletes etc. do just that, and they should be commended)

I read through some of the charities on the list you provided, and I had a hard time finding specifics on how the money is spent. Sounds like it's one program funding another, taking a cut for admin cost as it goes. I

Many do donate their time without the cameras.

That's just a product of our society. They sell. I don't know why America is like that exactly. They're just some moron playing a character on TV or dribbling a basketball, etc. But people (especially women) are obsessed with celebrities.

If they garner more interest in the cause, then it's a good idea to use them.

And the irony is I stopped paying attention after page 2...... just basically lost interest into what I asked
