Wait how does SFG know hipster girl again? I think your problem is that you are like best friends with SFG. Think it's time to cut her.

Rule #1. Never remain friends with exes, unless it's for casual reasons, such as Shea on your bullpen. But that communication should be limited to maybe a few texts a month.

Rule #2. Never become friends with chicks ever. Period.
 
You could make the case that my ex - who is female - is my best friend. I don't see how it's a bad thing. She is just someone to go to an occasional movie with and talk about shit with and we are mutually supportive. We watched Canada win the gold medal in hockey together. :highfive: She has helped with my business many times.

I have every reason to expect that we will remain friends until one of us dies. I can't see any negative angle to it.
 
I agree there may be a generational effect at work but exactly the opposite of what you are suggesting.

Lots of guys my age don't know how to relate to women and see them as the enemy.

From what I know of my father's generation - basically the Mad Men generation - they were even less likely to have female friends. Women were simply not considered equal. There would be stigma attached to a man having a female friend for a few reasons.

The world has changed. Many younger people seem much more enlightened about and unthreatened by the opposite sex. They are more likely to just see them as equals and therefore reasonable candidates for friendship. There are exceptions of course but by and large.

I think it's just an individual thing.
