I once described my sense of humor as sarcasm, honed to an razor's edge. I think has developed over the years from having to tell people that they are doing something really stupid at work. If you just say something deadpan, people aren't really sure if you are being serious or just joking; so they usually take less offense when they realize their boss has caught them fucking up. A lot of stagehands have this trait so I guess it is just a coping mechanism of some sort with having to work with different people all the time.
