Clueless novice viewers complain about the appearance of the puck.

Once you understand the game there is no reason to stare at the puck.

Agreed.

I would liken it to clueless novices getting hung up on flopping and low scoring in soccer instead of focusing on the several intriguing aspects of the game.

I think we even had a clueless novice poster devote a thread to flopping.

So 0-0 games are underrated? Out of 15 elimination games (not counting the 3rd place game), only 4 had more than 2 goals scored. I get the strategy but playing 0-0 1st halves isn't really compelling. It seems like teams are playing not to lose rather than playing to win.

FTR, I have never complained about low scoring.

Many soccer enthusiast agree that flopping is an issue with the sport.

I don't know any hockey enthusiasts that complain about the appearance of the puck.

And the other 10 games?

When equal teams face off you are not going to see goals. It's a chess game. Each player has a specific task. Why do you always looks at goals scored instead of chances created. A good save or the ball hitting the bar is as good as a goal. These are viewed as positive by the international soccer viewing community. Only Americans think the goalie making a good save, the ball hitting the bar or a goal negated by ab offside is negative. When you watch the game look at the whole package not just the score. I love watching great tackles because I love to play defense when I play soccer. I like aerial battles when guys fight for position on a corner kick. I like to watch nice triangular passing and give and goes. I love yellow cards and kicks to the shins. I don't concentrate on the final score or goals. Soccer is not about goals. It's about watching beautiful passes and hard runs and shots saved by goalkeepers and even out of bound shots that miss the target by inches. I love offside traps. I love beating the offside trap. I love everything. Not just goals.

I'm not sure they were all equal. Judging by the betting lines, the favs won almost every game in the knockout rounds and after. That tells me the dog is stalling and the fav is probably sitting on the lead in the 2nd half. One rule that needs to be implemented is no kicking backwards after crossing midfield back into the defensive zone. That would eliminate a lot of this.

If you want to compare team strengths the best way is to calculate each team's starting 11 salaries with their club teams. This is a better indicator of why favs win more often.

If they can't pass backwards after crossing midfield here is what is going to happen. They will kick the ball out of bounds for a goal kick rather than lose possession in the midfield and get caught on the counter attack.
