OK so I work full time and take a full college course load, etc. etc.
Any night before last I'm up til 4 am working on this damn Flash project then up at 9 for her birthday (yesterday). I meet up with her and her friend for lunch, it's her birthday so prior I get her flowers and a gift card to a nice store give it to her in public at lunch she's thrilled everyone's happy.
So last night, I finally have some time to kick back when I get home from work at like 11. I watch the tail end of the games, have some beer, etc.
Anyway she has been training for a 5k and this was her 1st one this morning. Asked her prior if she wanted me to go with her to support her, etc. she was not worried about it.
So I stay up really late messing around a come downstairs about noon, she is back from the race and fucking furious with me. "The least you could have done was roll over and send me a text saying good luck, etc. etc."
Uh, just woke up, WTF. From everyone happy yesterday to this shit.
I'm calling shannannigans on her and asking the ref to put her in the sin bin for 5 for unnecessary fury.
Am I wrong? Feels like BS.

I don't know her personally but her reaction does not surprise me. She wants to feel supported despite what she might have said. She wants you to support her because you really want to, not because she instructs you to.

To be honest, I was expecting you to say she was mad because you got her a gift card rather than a personalized gift.

I am with you in that I recognize the contradictions in her actions. But sometimes that is part of the deal. What can I say?

Women.

steve used to deal with the same thing. it will always happen. always go with your gut instinct. "Asked her prior if she wanted me to go with her to support her, etc. she was not worried about it." that means go support her.

Indeed.
At the end of the day Stevek, men and women are very different and some of the things they do and say defy our brand of logic.

Without caving in totally it is normally best to acknowledge that you should have been more thoughtful even if you don't really believe it.

Women can be very tricky. I was just speaking to a female friend. I found myself getting lectured for not doing a better job of keeping in touch. I felt very sheepish and was all apologetic and whatnot.

It wasn't until I hung up the phone that I realized, Hey wait a minute, why am I getting scolded? If we haven't talked for awhile that means she hasn't called just as much as I haven't called.

It all seems very obvious, but when you are in the middle of it, they have a way of getting to you. And the damn thing is, if I called her back and challenged her on that, she would probably have some damn answer.

Women.

You should have went to support her...regardless of what she said. It is one of those things. She can say all she wants that she isn't worried about and doesn't care if you are there but the reality is....you are expected to be there.
