You couldn't be more incorrect, my friend.

It would be selfish of me to HAVE a kid. I would be a terrible father and my child would have a severe disadvantage his entire life because of my lack of parenting/terrible genes/etc.

We've had this discussion before though. Not looking to start this one up again. It's just maddening that anyone would think someone like me is selfish for not having kids. Just silly.

Yep.

I certainly wouldn't label it as selfish. Everyone has their own reasons. Personally, I don't want kids because I wouldn't want them to endure the society that we live in. Life isn't gonna get any easier. This Earth can only sustain so many humans. Look at how many more problems our generations face compared to the generations before us.

Some might even call that selfless.

And yep.

Many people feel an obligatory need to share the human experience of absolute joy with everyone around them. I mean, if you don't have kids, how could you EVER understand?? It's as if you are a complete and absolute retard and incapable of any possible ounce of humanity if you don't have children!

This is the one time I will ever give myself a pass for being selfish.

I wasnt trying come off as yall are interpreting...
just adding a different prespective since it seems most here dont have kids...
my point being you dont know how good or bad of a parent you'll be or how hard of a life your kid might have,
but I whole heartedly agree with MFs statement

just saying, your thinking changes with the birth of a child, its no longer about you and only you.

maybe its selfish to want a kid? IDK

Robyn, your loins have never itched to procreate?

Mikey, I am so sorry if I came across as chastising you personally. I was really referencing my sister (and a few others) who used to love to tell me how much I was missing out on by not having children. You just never understand until you have kids, oh no, lawdy lawdy! SNARF! I'm sure that's very well true. I will never understand because I will never have a child force it's way into this world via my vagina. And god damnit, I'm very proud of that.

your gonna miss some entertaining times ...
like parents coming to blows over little league games
its magical to sit back and watch douche bag dads resort to fist a cuffs over tee ball

My roommate in college was a waitress in a strip bar. She said during the day shift, a mom came in and dragged her 18 year old daughter off stage. Best story evar.

The power is out in our house. Mr. X had to finish up baseball so to the bar with free wifi it is.

Crunk.

Anyone who tells you you're missing out by not having children needs a massive boot to the head.

I find myself (in my REGULAR life) having to make excuses nearly daily as to why I don't have children. Does it make me feel weird or less a woman? No. I feel like a response human being. I'm not kidding. If I had kids, I don't know how I could let them out of my sight, especially in Florida, which seems to be the home of child killers.

Now that I'm a part of the Mommy Brigade, I've learned that chastising those who choose to remain childless seems to be a common trait shared by a lot of parents. I really think people do it as a way to justify their choice to have children themselves. That and it seems to be a part of human nature to want to see others suffer as you are.

Don't get me wrong - I obviously love my son and there are probably 10 times a day that I thank my lucky stars for having him in my life. But anyone with an even somewhat analytical mind would not classify having children as a +EV proposition.

Funny, I used to feel that way, I don't anymore. It is what we have, it is life. Eliminating all struggle just leaves us with nothingness. Let him/her screw around and make the most of it.

Not to say I'm gonna have any kids anytime soon. But if the situation presented itself, I wouldn't be opposed to it.
