Let's see what the totals are after its all over. It might lead to a different time span, for one, they might be done early

I mean they started at the same basic time.

but we have the ability to wait and see what the totals are, as spectators and un-important lame non people

the people on task forces in governments all across the country don't quite have the luxury.

very brilliant minds are looking at data daily and plugging it in. They are literally moving ventilators around from state to state based on this info. So there is most definately no waiting and seeing. they need informed decision making

The reason those numbers are dropping in Italy and Spain are because of severe countrywide lockdowns; the same safety measure you've been mocking throughout this entire thread. The USA's population is much larger and its restrictions are much more lax. We shouldnt expect the same results. And you really think we'll keep this lockdowns in place through August, as your model suggests it must to be accurate, if the death rate plummets?

Again, I hope I'm wrong. But if I am it will almost exclusively be because we catch a huge break from the weather and this virus goes away during the summer.

Dave, when you say much more lax, I don’t think the gap Is that huge. Maybe we won’t have the exact same results as Italy or Spain, but my feeling is we aren’t that far off.

I'm not sure how any of that applies. Question is: is the model underestimating the likely deaths, because Americans aren't distancing themselves enough, as the model stipulates

My point is simply, the difference between what the model stipulates and what's actually happening cannot be responsible for a significant increase. To that end, I'm questioning whether the severe restrictions actually work better than say ones in Sweden, in the 1st place

That USA Today article has no point.

This was the main point for me ....
In addition, 63% of the deaths were among those age 70 and older, while 7% of the cases were those 49 and younger.
By + and - then 30% of the deaths are aged 50 to 69!

No deaths are good, but mostly old people are dying! Solace for me in the fact less of the very young with less fully developed immune systems are dying from it!
.

Corona porn:

I’ve been limiting myself to 20 minutes a day.

You know with sexual distancing and all.

This is very hard to quantify, so you may be right. But those countries are actually blocking travel, police stops at city borders, enforcing the lockdown with arrests.

We have no such restrictions; I can go visit anyone and will never get pulled over asking where I'm going. Vast majority of drive thrus are still open. We can fly virtually anywhere.

It's obviously impossible to say whether our quarantine is 60% as effective or 80% or even 95%. But whatever the number is, that % difference keeps compounding on itself as the disease keeps spreading.

Heard and understood. I will say where I am, if the police see you congregating in a public area, they will tell you to leave.

Id hope that common sense would prevail and people would stay home, but then I remember I said common sense.

Sorry to hear about your mom, Dave. Hope she feels better.

Thanks a lot man, appreciate it. Fortunately she hasn't had too bad of a reaction to the chemo.

The big thing now is just being worried about her getting this thing while her immune system is compromised. They've been really good about quarantining, but she still needs to go in for her treatment every three weeks. Scary time to be immunocompromised.

Right.

And you just have a huge portion of Americans that are pig-headed.

And the President of the United States and Fox News spending the first few weeks of this crisis writing it off as a hoax.

And young people who say "it isn't affecting young people I don't give a fuck".

The list goes on and on. So yeah, the efforts are certainly helping regardless of how well executed they are... but a country united and all on the same page and all under serious lockdown we are not.
