Cheese

What's the deal with cheese? There are cheeses with mold on them. Roquefort is an example that comes to mind.

People eat the moldy cheese on purpose.

Sometimes I buy great big hunks of cheddar cheese. They are more cheese than I really require but the deals they have on the 500 gm hunks can't be ignored. They're like 20 cents more than a 200 gm hunk. You don't have to be a genius to see which hunk is +ev. You can throw away half the 500 gm hunk and still come out ahead.

Point being, as I get to the end of the hunk, it has been sitting around so long, mold will start growing on it. I don't want to eat that shit. Do people eat that shit?



I like cheese but I am suspicious of it.

I grew up in Wisconsin. So, by default, I am a cheese expert.

I don't like cheese.

Chocolate chip cheese bacon cookies. Seems like the classic case of tastes that are excellent on their own but perhaps should not be combined. Do I want to dip those in ketchup?

Of course the problem is that throwing away large hunks of cheese like that can attract fishheads so you have to be careful.

I'm a fan of cheese but I would not be a fan of moldy cheese. Cheese gives me the poops though so instead of pooping once every other day when I have cheese it's sometimes twice a day.

I realize when you started talking about cheese you never imagined some asshole would turn around and talk about pooping but for this asshole they are connected.

I still would not eat/purchase or even want to be around moldy cheese.

We set that stuff out once a month for low income families and that joke Eddie Murphy told about trying to make a grilled cheese sandwich is no joke. That stuff is designed to withstand contact with the sun.

On doing some further reading, you are not supposed to eat cheddar cheese mold. That mold has a different nature than the roquefort mold.

It is okay however to just cut it off. You need to slice off at least one inch around the mold spot. Obviously you should keep the knife out of the mold itself so that it doesnt cross-contaminate other parts of the cheese.

It all sounds so gross. I do love cheddar cheese though. I think I might just have some cheeses dreams for lunch today.

Not all mold on food is bad.

Spanish blue, with roasted beets, pickled onion, and orange segments go really well together on a salad

I realize a lot of people eat the moldy cheese and it is not killing anyone. For me though, it would be too big a psychological hurdle to overcome. I am not an adventurous eater.

I would have done terrible on Survivor or Fear Factor when they got to the part about eating bugs or testicles or whatever slimy idea they come up with.
