What about the T4i. it comes with 18 - 55 MM as well , but you can add an additional 40 MM by adding the additional "smaller" lens?

No. They are two separate lenses. The 18-55 is a zoom that goes from wide to "standard", while the 40 is a standard that doesn't zoom. For reasons I won't get into here it's better than the zoom for indoor/dim-lighting shots.

What do you mean? We're not working on an assembly line here. You think I'm slacking off but a lot of people spend their day just talking nonsense to other people.

My job involves a lot of reading and typing. Gamelive is a welcome continuous distraction/mental-health break from the corporate mayhem.

You could just start with the T3i and a single lens, the 18-55 mm will be enough to start learning, learn the difference between 18mm, 35mm and 55mm shooting. $550 in Amazon right now. Your bundle is not a good deal because the long range lens at that price is surely not the USM version, that's for image stabilization, and you would really one want/need that. USM version of that lens runs about $500-$600, so you can imagine what type of product you're getting on that deal. Later on when you can appreciate long distance you could get one for about $200 used.

But if you don't mind that bundle there's a better one in Amazon.

Both lenses have image stabilization (IS). It's pretty useless on the 18-55 but yeah, almost mandatory on the 55-250.

USM is just Canonspeak for the integrated focusing motor.

That T3i bundle is a great deal.

Rogatien you're fired.

Are you going to use it for video also? Some DSLRs take insanely good video in addition to being good still cameras, especially if you do a firmware hack (you might need to find a local nerd to help you with that part, but the results can be spectacular).

Anything by Canon or Nikon. I mean it. I "sold" a couple of Nikon D3100 to 2 friends recently and they're really happy with them. $379, came with the excellent Nikon 18-55mm lens. That's really all you need to get started and figure shit out.

The low-end Canon DSLRs are gonna be just as good.

Just buy a DSLR and figure shit out.
