what is it like working on a full moon, or friday the 13th, halloween, st. patrick's day, super bowl sunday, secretary's day????

are there any other especially weird and busy days of the year that seem to happen all the time?

full moons are seriously crazy shit. our pyschiatric calls triple and we run some nasty wrecks. i would never work super bowl sunday. no chance in fukking hell. i worked halloween nothing too exciting. 4th of july we ran some fireworks accidents that were kinda fun.

i would say the full moon nights are the craziest one though. its strange how such a seemingly trivial thing makes for so many more calls.

i have never personally ran a good drowning. we did a standby on a vehicle that went through the concrete barrier on a bridge and into the water but by the time the rescue team got them out it was too late so we didnt do anything.

we also ran a drunk illegal who had too much cerveza and went swimming in the lake and was flailing for help for 3-4 minutes but he was fine.

and we ran a dude that drowned in a lake he was swimming and had a seizure. coulda been bad but his girlfriend was a nurse and handled the pressure pretty well (usually nurses are m,ostly useless outside of the hospital).

and we ran a dude who dove into a 3 ft apartment pool and hit his head and went unconscious. again too many cervezas but his buddy pulled him out and woke him up and laughed at him. not sure who was sober enough to call 9-1-1 everyone seemed overserved that i spoke with
 
the apartment one was kinda cool actually. we called his wife and told her what had happened and that he was being taken to the hospital and she was like. is this some kind of sick fuckking joke? i was like i dont have time for this when you cant find him or get ahold of his cell he will be at the hospital. he was trying to impress some other broad at that apt and when we got to the hospital his nurse came in and she is one of the more attractive nurses. he said hey you're pretty cute wanna go swimming.

we have 15 cities we service and we dont have stations like normal ambulances so they station us at various posts depending on how many trucks we have available and statistics from previous days/years etc. we have a center of our coverage area where most of our hospitals are. our goal is to get as far north south east or west as possible from that hospital district. all the homeless shelters and the poverty sides of town are close to the middle. at the call with bar hottie we were super far north hence we did not want to transport her to the hospital we would have prefferred go available really far north with a documented patient refusal
 
Dustin what are your thoughts on rectal thermometers

I have one... except it doesn't have any numbers on it, and it has no mercury or senor.....and its like cucumber size....and it has a remote control and It can shake really fast....

is this good in your medical opinion?

funny you should ask that. we had a downsyndrome patient with chest pain. that means we do a 12 lead to see rhythyms and make sure no MI, the 12 lead goes under the left breast. i can tell when my partner is excited by a female when he doesnt wear gloves to put on the 12 lead. oddly for the 40 something down syndrome pt he choose not to. i bust his balls all the time for this. but he swears it was a coincidence
