Apple TV or the like?

Get an appletv or roku. They're super-easy, cheap, you can keep browsing on the laptop, and you can control the netflix via remote control instead of having to walk to the laptop.

You won't need help setting it up. Couldn't be easier.

Obviously you overestimate my mechanical abilities but thank you...that's what I will do...any lean toward apple vs. roku? I don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee or anything for the device do I?

Almost bought an Apple TV, but I do watch the occasional Blu-Ray. Bought all my all-time faves on Blu-Ray during a crazy sale, paid less than 10 bucks per flick.

Interesting. So you think that the current Dvr/cable box is connected to the tv with an HDMI cord...RIGHT NOW? That would be my first shot...then going with either the apple tv or the other due to space concerns..I don't ever really watch movies on dvd/blu ray.

And what is HULU? I keep hearing about that.

Yeah, if you have DSL cable, or dish or whatever, there is an HDMI chord that connects the cable box to the tv, you can take it out of the cable box, and plug it into your laptop. Like Bacon said, if you want, you can even get a wireless mouse and key board and navigate from your bed.

Hulu I haven't signed up for yet but would like to. It is, like Mr X said, more TV and less movies, it Hulu Plus has far more tv shows, and more current content. I think the price is about the same. Sign up for a free week and see what you think. I've heard it's way better the netflix.

I use Chromecast to watch Netflix on my tv from my iPhone.

Works absolutely fine.

Inexpensive as well.
