Swinger, hi. Question for you. Now I don't frequent the Best Bet daily threads, but if you are truly here because you enjoy posting here and you don't get paid for your picks...why aren't you posting any plays?

Because if they want to know what I'm on, the least they can do is go to my site and check it out. The podcasts are only 2-4 mins tops. I mean I'll feed you for nothing but the least you could do is come to my kitchen.

No, I think you've got to be more like those Panda Express guys with the chicken on toothpicks at the mall. I only have second hand experience with touts (I'm not calling you one) but probably most of the people here are overrun with spam, spam and more spam of a very specific nature. I hear Reno and Mr. X on the phone with guys almost daily telling them to go pound sand.

So if you want to prove your kitchen is good, I think, especially with this jaded crowd you would have to throw a few things out there. Even though you're not charging, people are justifiably suspect. It seems like a pretty hard sell for altruism, but I too am one of the jaded, and talking out of my bum since I haven't even been to your site.

Maybe I'm wrong. Just my opinion, and most definitely not trying to make no troubles. I mean how smart can I really be? I'm hanging out on a gambling forum all day, and I don't even gamble.

Here's the thing Mrs. X....I would like them to go to my site but I don't need them to go to my site. If they're jaded and skeptical, then let them continue. I don't care what you call me actually. Whether it is a tout or handicapper, the truth be told I am first and foremost a writer who happens to enjoy handicapping games while joking about it. I've done stand up before and it was a blast but I could never travel for a living. So there it is. I happen to enjoy the reaction of all these jaded bastards when I put my link up. You would've thought it was me holdiing a swastika flag with a Hitler action figure on my shoulder. I get a kick out of it really. And the funny part is, the ovewhelming majority of my posts have no link whatsoever.

So that's it in a nutshell. If they can't even muster the strength to click a link and listen to a 3 minute podcast, then why pander to those people? I want people who enjoy the style and humor as much as the selections. If they're just chasing a winner, fuhgettaboutit.

I don't need someone to give me picks. First off - and this is for Mrs.X too - I don't even gamble. Secondly - as I referenced previously - we don't need a handicapper giving us picks here. These people know what they are doing.

So unless it's for the pure entertainment factor of listening to you yell at us, why would we keep going back to your site? I can understand how some people would be entertained. You seem like an entertaining character. It wasn't my style, but some people might love it. However, everyone on this board knows that a guy with a podcast isn't any more likely to pick winners than their own grandmother.

So as I've said, we're not your target here. I bet there are plenty of fish on SBR who would still be impressed by your schtick and think you must be some sort of guru because you have your own webpage. If you want the acknowledgment of being a superior handicapper, then start a thread here with your picks and keep an accurate running record. That's the only thing that will have a chance of registering with the people here. Shouting plays on a podcast and then bragging about one when it hits is a big red flag for me and I assume most of us.

I don't know Scholar. I think in many ways I'm wired differently than most people. I had a very in depth email exchange with my best friend over this a couple weeks ago where I explained in great detail how I've never actually enjoyed being inebriated. That's not to say I haven't had times here and there where I had a blast while I was fucked up, or while getting fucked up. But the fact is there has always been a little "voice" in my head calculating how much longer it would be until it was over and I could feel right again.

I know it's hard for people who enjoy their drugs and alcohol to understand how a lifelong user would decide to quit, not because he liked it too much, but because he realized he never actually liked it at all. The only think I can say is you have to take my word for it. I've always used drugs/alcohol because the people I hung out with - my friends - did. And I was very susceptible to peer pressure and a desire to fit in/look cool, etc.

(I also want to reiterate for the record that I have no qualms with people who use/enjoy alcohol and/or recreational drugs. If I enjoyed it I would still be doing it right along with you, because I don't see this as a moral issue at all.)

That is the thing though swinger. A good number of posters here make their living from gambling which I think we can agree is a dog eat dog business. They nonetheless share some picks despite there being absolutely nothing in it for them (kudos aside). You make your living via different means and choose to contribute here but in order for us to get your views in terms of picks we are required to click on a link to your site. I am guessing that those clicks have some value to you. This does not make you a tout but it does mean that many will consider you being here only, or at least principally, for selfish business reasons.

I have listened to a couple of your recordings, not for picks but simply because I do find myself mildly entertained by your over the top/extrovert style. As I have mentioned before I also enjoy your written contributions but I would like to think that they are more than simple advertising for the swingingjohnson brand.

I never thought I'd utter the words "Jello" and "thoughtful analysis" but here goes. Jello, I thank you for your thoughtful analysis but here's where I disagree with you. First off, you're not really my primary target as you do not bet on these games. However, there is a section called Caught in the Net (top of the page) that is for everyone as it's a colelction of great stuff, non gambling related, all over the net. If you haven't checked that part of the sit out, I am sure you will enjoy it. Now allow me to quote you here, "these people know what they are doing." They do? Well, unless you have their histories over say the past year I will submit to you the statistics will prove otherwise. Unless this is a website devoted to statistical anomalies, only about 8% of the wagering population actually wins on a regular basis, as it is about money management as much as it is information and intelligent handicapping.

Therefore, Jello I think you want to believe with every fiber of your being that the GameLive crew are a colelction of wise guys and sharps but the truth be told is they are simply reflective of any population at any gambling site. Now that doesn't mean this nsite isn't unique in other ways like it's more open, they have their own characters, rules are relaxed, perhaps even the members are closer to eachother than on other sites. But don't deceive yourself and believe everyone here is a sharp. However, I am digressing. As far as touts and handicappers go, they are mostly a collection of guys trying to manufacture opinions in order to make money. I don't have to do that as I am not charging. I will tell you when I LOVE a game and I'll also tell you when I dont like much of anything but here's a play if you want action. I will tell you I know of a few services that are very expensive and very exclusive that may not have a play for 4 or 5 days but when they release they are excellent. But tehy are not the ones advertising so many of the memebers here and other places would not know of them. The others, yeah, run of the mill snake oil salesmen.

So, if people are not inclined to check out my site no problem but don't ask me to bake you a cake if you won't even come to my kitchen to eat it.

Dunder, wonderfully astute. But here's the thing. People think I have this huge hidden agenda. The value of these clicks is to establsih some traffic. I do not, repeat do not, make any money off this traffic. However, hopefully people will enjoy coming to the site and tell their firends and so on and so on (like that old shampoo commercial) and somewhere down the road, when I'm old and gray, I can have a commercially viable site that advertisers may want to appear on. That is waaaay down the line. But the funny thing is, people have these preconceived notions and will not visit the site because they're already pissed at me because they think I'm one of THEM (Charge for a pick cappers). Unlike you my dear Dunder, who keeps an open mind and realizes what I am and what I am not, if these boneheads can't get over it, then at least I can get some amusement by reading their rants and raves when I do post my link. I sit here and laugh my ass off. Thanks Dunder for your thoughts.

As for the "everybody here is a sharp" thing, that's not really what I was saying. I do think that there are a higher percentage of "successful" bettors here than most similar sites. However, what I meant was that these people know the game. They know what you are and what you provide on your website. They also know that you aren't any more likely to give them a winner than anybody else on this board or on the net. They've been around the block a few times.

You want to believe there are a higher percentage of successful bettors here than anywhere else but I will counter that, unless you show me evidence to the contrary, the % is the same here as everywhere. And here's the funny thing. You, again assert something without knowing, suggest I am no more likely to give them a winner than anyone else. Maybe true (it isn't but I'll allow it for the sake of this discussion) but how would they know if they don't visit the site! And that intractibility is what makes me laugh. They are dug in and they wouldn't listen to me if I had 11 out of 12 winners because they'd be bitching about the one I lost. That's what I find funny not only here but elsewhere.

If you had 11 out of 12 winners, most people here would understand that it's a small sample size and over the long haul your numbers would at best be around 55% on -110 level wagers. That's assuming you are a fantastic handicapper, and you've already made clear your stance on assumptions.

The fact that you don't consider this to be even a slightly elevated forum is perhaps the cause of your troubles on this board. You are assuming there are just as many easily manipulated and naive people here as there are on SBR and the like, and that's just not accurate. You can call that an assumption or an assertion or whatever you wish. I don't really give a shit, which is also a fitting reflection of the interest we apparently have in your website.
