btw. on side note. if this is 10 hours of walking through downtown in 3 minutes its a bit misleading. If I tape myself walking through hood areas or downtown in ten hours there will be some thing going down somewhere, at least hellos, comments, begging for change

Movements need to Quit bitching about insignificant things and work to empower yourself and others. She's exactly right.

If I choose to go home with some guy from a bar, it does not give men as a population the right to harass me on the street. That's almost as bad as the clothing arguments. It's not even all about degradation. It's about annoyance. What if everywhere you went gay men were constantly hollering at you and making sexual come-ons...wouldn't this bother you in the least? Unwanted attention/harassment is unwanted attention.

This girl is apparently now receiving death threats.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Also, I believe that the video said that she walked thru all parts of the city during that 10 hours, although I don't know that to be the case.

I'm am not sure if you missed my sarcasm or what, but I'm kind of missing ur point.

Creating a mindset that it is better to ignore harassment than fight against it, is not helpful to children. That is what I was attempting to communicate.


Blitty...what is the normal response to this type of behavior in NYC? I just saw a poll that %80 of women surveyed said they had been harassed like this. Obviously in this video the woman chose to just forge on quietly. Do most do that or do some respond-either being hostile or receptive?

I think a lot try to block it out with headphones.

But I've seen girls cry and had friends complain about it.
 
Again, I don't get how someone feels comfortable fucking a stranger, letting a stranger put their dick in them, but gets pissed when a stranger says something in passing. that just doesn't make sense to me.

My whole point from the start was that females need to get a thicker skin and just ignore it. Unless someone is actually following you around, or touching you, what is the big deal?! Sure, men are idiots and need to knock it off. but dude.

She walked throughout all 5 boroughs.

You guys keep missing my point. Instead of picking at the vid and saying its unusual, yada yada.. Believe me that I personally witness it, in good and bad parts of town, very commonly.
 
Now I am not sure about the crying....is that out of shear frustration or actual fear? I think I would just be annoyed like when you have to ignore all the barkers trying to sell you a timeshare in Mexico.
 
No one is saying it doesn't happen that often. We, or I at least, am saying that the "offense" itself, isnt' that big of a deal. I'm sure there are some guys out there that cross the line, and something should be done about those ones, but just a whistle, or a hey beautiful, or whatever, I mean, it's not the end of the world. Far more important things to worry about then some guy being a douche in passing.

Well I already said my one friend got a breast reduction, so obviously pretty damaging emotionally.

Imagine those 10 hours TIMES 10 years. Day in, day out.

Why are you assuming that all these women routinely go home with strangers?

Not trying to be argumentative..trying to understand your point...should black people who dislike the N word and are routinely verbally assaulted just grow thicker skins if they are not being physically assaulted ? Should they "just move if they don't like it?" I can't agree with the Just get over it if it's not physical assault angle.
 
It's all about how one perceives and receives the world. You can't control how other people act, but you can control how it affects you. Don't want to hear it? grab some headphones and jam out. Take it as a compliment, and move on with your day. no need to dwell on some random guy saying your hot.
