OK here it goes.

I want to get this out there right off the bat. Like Mudder, it's never been in my character to rub it in a loser's face when my team wins. I'll always tip my hat to the losing team if they put up a good performance.

Ryan Miller, goaltender of the American men's team, deserves a huge tip of the hat for allowing his team to at least be a competitive team. Simply put, Miller was outstanding. In the hockey world it is a common saying that "Show me a good goalie and I'll show you a good coach." In Miller's case it should be "Show me a good goalie and I'll show you a good team."

Now on to the Canadian men's team. Our guys played outstanding from the net out and once again we showed that we re still be best in the world. I'm not bragging here, but Canada is a powerhouse when it comes to hockey. The good thing for the entire sport is that the Yanks are finally getting it together, but sadly the future doesn't look as bright as it should look. The American hockey system started to graduate great players, but apparently they will be going through a dry spell in the next several years. To me, as a die hard hockey fan, this is sad because I really would love to see hockey become more popular in the U.S. I guess one thing we could do is get rid of Bettman who has failed in growing and marketing the game south of the border. I'll stop about Bettman because I am a happy dude right now and I don't want angry Pucky to come out and ruin my night.

To the Americans who follow hockey I congratulate you on a fine showing. You should be happy that Ryan Miller at least made it exciting for you guys. Like I said, he was outstanding.

Vegas Dave, you have an awesome young Canadian defenseman in Doughty. This kid is lights out phenomenal!!!

Blitty, Getzlaf is a monster. I wasn't at all impressed with Perry, but man you have a killer player in Getzlaf. HIller is also an outstanding goalie so you must be happy. Bobby Ryan is young, but I like this kid. Hopefully young American kids will look up to him and follow his lead. At least he's not an immature little cunt like Kane.

Amby, a penguins fan right? Crosby is just lights out phenomenal. I know I ranted on another forum about Crosby making other players around him better players and bitching that Ovechkin doesn't. Once again Ovechkin turtled when the going got tough and the Canadian attacked them like "gorillas coming out of a cage".

Hockey is a great sport. I hope some of you Yanks who have watched this game got into it. It was a great performance by Miller and overall the game was an exciting game to watch. NHL starts back up on Tuesday so let's all be happy and have fun for the rest of the regular season.

Congrats Pucker-

I'm surprised your not a fan of Perry, he got a few key goals for you guys.

Great game. Crosby always gets lucky and scores the big goals.

I thought Perry was slow or hurt. I know he's a very decent player, but he looked slow and out of pace at times.

Crosby is pure talent. No luck needed. :)

Pucky, this did get me back into wanting to root for my Flyers to win the Cup! Hopefully i will keep up with it! Bettman better not want to stop sending the NHL players to these games! I do know who is the King of hockey.

I am indeed a Pens fan and as sad as I was to see USA lose the gold medal...I guess the one guy I could have asked for got the game winner. Funny thing about it, I was watching the game with Dancegirl and when it went to OT she said something to the effect of "Crosby has been quiet today, is he really that good? If he is, I bet he scores the winning goal." She happened to be right. That kid is phenomenal and has basically accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the hockey world and is only 22 years old. As long as he is on the Pens they will be someone to watch out for.

I couldn't agree more with Bettman, that guy is destroying the NHL little by little. If he has no plans to capitalize on the current buzz surrounding hockey that is out there right now he should be shot. He now has a golden opportunity to expand the sport's viewing audience and keep some people interested that never would have ever watched hockey previously.

And he doesn't want the NHL players to participate n Russia in 4 years time. I sweat I thnk the guy is a marketing fool.

It's just hockey, so don't mistake this question for caring, but....

I know that it's not the fault of the teams, but this is the most retarded setup ever to decide a Gold Medal winner.

But don't get me wrong. I'm actually glad that there won't be a third sudden death game. That would mean prolonging the Winter Olympics for one more day. No thanks. But it doesn't make the setup any less gay.

:hattip:

The USA played a good game and put a hell of a scare in me. They were unfortunate that their tenacity in the early going when they were out-scrapping us on faceoffs and for loose pucks didn't translate to a lead on the scoreboard.

But I am proud of the Canadian team. It is a moment I will remember until the day I die.

Every sport I know of has the possibility of a team with a better regular season record, either overall or head-to-head or both, losing in the playoffs. Wild-card teams win the Super Bowl. The Cardinals beat the Tigers for the World Series despite 15 less wins (or whatever it was).

That's what being a champion is about - winning when it is most important.

You're giving samples of teams' regular season records. I get that. Cinderella stories happen.

But isn't the Olympics sort of like a playoff? If you're looking at playing a max of 6 games or whatever it is, there is no reason to have a system setup where two teams split in two of those games, each being their only loss, and the most recent of the victors wins gold.

I really don't care that much. All this did was solidify my belief that the Olympics r dum.
