I'm confused....Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying.

The whole point behind this contest is to make a pick every week. To allow missed weeks is to defeat the entire premise behind the contest.

I must be reading you wrong.

No, it's just in case someone happens to miss a week - for personal issues or whatever - they automatically get a pick allocated to them, maybe as a one-off week only. I didn't suggest it, it was in the default rules that I listed earlier and it's possibly something that can be voted on (like whether to have a split pot in the case of a tie) before the contest starts.

uteot that's weird. sent from two different accts too. ill do what you asked this morning.

Polly...IMO that's one that doesn't make sense at all. If someone doesn't get a pick in, and are allowed a one week chance to do so, it's no fair at all to all the ppl who get eliminated that week and never took a week off. Whoever ran that pool was an idiot.

The two rules that I'm keeping a tally on that can go with majority rules are deadline for getting in picks and how to handle splitting the pot or a tiebreaker. Other than that, it's a pretty cut & dry contest. I did like seeing the rule about a tie in there, since they happen so rarely, but yes, a tie is a loss.

Yeah I agree with all of this. Put the deadline for picks up for vote as well as the split the pot rule. The whole point of the contest is to make a pick every week. No excuses!

I agree, you have to make a pick every week with no exceptions. If you start letting people take even 1 week off during the contest, I'm willing to bet people start having health issues, or dead grandparents, perhaps a foreclosure, or a flood, or some bullshit that will prevent them from choosing a tough game. Its only $25, if you have something that prevents you from playing, you probably won't be to worried about your contest fee.

I don't mind having the option of one off week which can be used either strategically or because shit happens, however I'll just go ahead and vote NO OFF WEEKS since it feels like we are close to being settled on that and I don't care that much.

Well since we are tallying the thoughts, I would like to spout off about the virtues of my tie breaking system.

Lets say that 2 people make it all the way through the year to week 17 and are tied because they made it through the entire way, to have a playoff doesn't make sense to me because now they will need to pick playoff games, and there will be a delay in payoffs. With my system, the tie breaker is determined on games already played. The player who has picked the team with the lowest cumulative win total has accomplished the task with a team that has a less of a buffer than the team cumulative total with the greater amount of wins. This way, instead of picking Indy, New Orleans, Green Bay, etc..., somebody who has a week or two with Buffalo, or god forbid St. Louis, will get more value for that balzy pick.

These should be the rules because ive played in like 10 of these leagues and the rules have always been the same besides the tie rule, which can go either way...

1) You must pick a straight up winner EVERY week
2) single elimination if your pick loses you are out
3) Last man standing will collect the entire pot
4) If all remaining participants lose in a week a tie will occur
a) The pot is split between the participants that lost that week
b) all participants are re-active and you follow said rules for the rest of the season til 1 single man remains
5) You can only pick 1 team per year, once that team is picked you can no longer pick them again
6) You can submit your pick for the game anytime before kickoff of that game

As per rule 6 i think tis foolishness to say if there's a game on Thursday that should be the deadline to submit picks. If anything before the first game on Sunday but i think any time before kickoff is sufficient enough. The thought about giving people a week off is just stupid.

Current Tally on hot issues:
(I trust that everyone who has issued an unofficial vote here is actually playing in the pool, or that is just retarded.)

Cutoff time to get game in:
Anytime before kickoff for game you are picking - 3 (mmike, CB, UTEOT)
Noon on Sunday (or hour before game if Thursday or Saturday game) - 1 (Swarmy)

If we end up going with anytime before your game kicks off, and someone does not make a play on Sunday, they are obviously down to the Monday Night game, but still need to post a play in that game. If they've already used both teams, they are out. Just food for thought.

Payout:
Split pot amongst last to be eliminated if all eliminated in same week, or multiple people survive 17 weeks - 3 (Bread, CB, UTEOT)
Tiebreaker - 2 (Muddy, Tully)
Cumulative Tiebreaker System - 1 (RageWizard)

Editing:
Allowed to change pick as long as neither game has started yet - 2 (Bread, mmike)
Not allowed to change pick at all once posted - 1 (Polaroid)

Question: What if we go with NO editing, and someone posts their pick without realizing that they already used that team earlier in the season? Can they change that?

I get discombobulated with this kind of thread where there are multiple topics. As far as the issue of deadline for entering picks, I vote for kickoff of the game you are playing.

No futzing around though. 1 second late is a fail. Like if gametime is 4:05 and the time signature for the pick is 4:05, that's late and it is a NO PLAY.

I'm not sure. If someone's game began badly and they edited their pick to a later game, how would we know? Is someone going to be so much on top of things that that would get noticed?

If so - I'm assuming so - then I vote okay to editing.

If we decide on a no editing policy then I would say that person is shit out of luck. I take that as the spirit of a "no editing" rule. Don't fuck up or you are fucked.
