This is the first we've heard about a UCL issue for Alvarez, although he had a brief elbow problem last season and there were whispers when he went on the disabled list last month that he had an elbow injury in addition to a shoulder ailment. There have been some that have pitched through ligament damage in the past, although it's hard to imagine anyone pitching with as much of a tear that Alvarez apparently has.
