I am going to derive alot of delight out of this contract stand-off. Neither parties really can afford to NOT give in..... and I think they both know it.... Jeter isn't worth 10 million for even 1 year on the open market, let alone for 4 years. the only premium value he brings to a team, is in drawing crowds to see his 3,000th hit.

but the Yanks also know that they can't let their captain and future hall of fame face of the yanks retire elsewhere..... its not "just business" in situations like this. You have to gauge the fan reaction, and the yanks will face a shit storm if they don't retain Jeter's over-valued services.

I think what I would love to see most, is the Bosox get into the tug of war, just to try to stab the yankee fans in the heart, but getting Jeter to end his career in a red sox jersey.

all in all, the rest of MLB must be rooting for the Yanks to cave and give Jeter 25 million for 4-6 years and reap the benefits of the luxury tax dividends on their ends

Archie, hard to say being him being a Yankee but Jeter is one of my fav players to watch and root for! The guy has been so clutch over the years and a real class act!

No doubt he doesn't stat wise deserve say 20 mil a year but he deserves to be paid it! Remember A-Rod has a contract that extends into his forties if I'm not mistaken? OK, A-Rod can always become a full time DH on his way to the HR record which Jeter would be out of place as a DH.

But the way the Yankees spend money like water the the only right thing to do is give him the money. A-Rod is a schmuck and Jeter is a good, character guy! Plus it wouldn't surprise me to see Jeter voluntary retire if his numbers and production for the team were so down that he realized he shouldn't be sitting on the bench just for a paycheck?

Never will forget this play! Kinda like the best kid on your Little League team who always played SS and probably also pitched who was the only player who realized and would be able to do what needed to be done. Unreal!

Derek Jeter is a positive outcome of what black and white people can do together. Had supportive parents and sister supporting him. Bet you they had Happy Thanksgivings together?

Why not?

I am a Huge Yankees fan and if the money isn't right...hell with him. Honestly the Yankees don't need Jeter..... they have done fairly well before he was on that team and they will do well without him in the future. I want him on the team and appreciate everything he has done for both the organization and fans but hell.....enough is enough.

The Yanks are offering him almost double the market value of a player of his caliber so they are being fair. Jeter is making himself look really really bad in this whole thing. The only thing on Jeter's side right now....no good Short Stops are on the market this year. If someone like Hanley Ramirez was out there, the Yanks would have cut ties with Jeter already.

AMBy everyone logically agrees with your statement, but why give that fuk A-Rod the world and not Jeter?

MrsM has put on some Christmas music (The Chairman of course) while preparing the meal and I feel so festive, let's laugh some. A great era of SNL in the early years!

Seriously though wish we could all could get along fine! :peace:

Hate Jeter and hate the Tankees. But, for NY to let this guy go would just cement the fact that there is no loyalty between teams and the players that bring in revenue for their business. Conversely, Jeter should realize that he's not worth that kinda money anymore and take one for the team that brought him up and helped make him the name that he is. That being said, if Jeter goes to Pittsburgh and get paid like mad, and NY is at the middle of a fan frenzy shitstorm......it wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit.

Yes but A-Rod still has a lot of years left in the tank. Jeter does not. Especially at SS....I don't think you can compare A-Rod to jeter in this situation.

Yes, I guess it comes down to being "business" but how many numerous times have the Yankees wasted money with bad "business" decisions. Would be a big publicity boost for the Stein sons in the way the fans view them IMO.

No matter how much Jeter's production goes down doubt if the fans would complain much about the money. Remember, the Yankees aren't like other teams who live through bad contracts, they just spend more money on someone else.

Do you honestly believe that Yankee ticket sales would suffer if the Yankee FO decided not to pay Jeter double market value? If I was a Yankee fan I would want my FO to be smart and not hand out ridiculous contracts for the sake of "loyalty".

I'm not saying pay him double market value, but over pay him....sure. And if you were a Yankee fan, you would want them to make some concession in order to keep him. Cause Yankee fans are dumb that way.

Ahh...that is the thing. That was the "old" Yankees when George was signing the checks. There have been many statements and things done over the last year that indicate Hank and Hal both believe their father overpaid and aren't going to do that as much.

I agree but the wrong person to begin with? Jeter could be and probably is the most revered Yankee since Mickey Mantle in the Sixties.

Oh absolutely he is overrated. I know he has done a lot for the team and organization but his value is way overstated. I think he is great but not $20 million great...hell I think $15 million is too much but that is the current offer.

We all know Jeter has more money than he would need to live the very good life until he dies. So maybe his advice team can throw out there some kind of charity thing that he would donate lots of the cash from his contract to a needy cause? Would that not be a nice little statement to really shove up the Stein boys asses? How could they say no?
