The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history. All of our countries will benefit greatly.

President Donald J. Trump

DELIVERING ON HIS PROMISE: President Donald J. Trump is replacing the outdated North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Today, President Trump is signing his historic USMCA deal, making good on his promise to deliver fairer and more reciprocal trade for the American people.
USMCA will replace the terrible NAFTA agreement that resulted in the loss of millions of American jobs and devastated communities across our country.

The tariffs mentioned above are there to protect critical industries. Canadian dairy farmers can't possibly compete with US farmers in large part because of the weather.

An entire economy is not a critical industry.

Also, the dairy tariff and a bunch more only apply after a certain quota is met. And yes, this is a deal that Trump negotiated.

Why is the dairy industry critical? Why not just buy from your "business partner" if it can't compete?

The real bullying going on here is the Canadian people acting like they provide more value then they do and then whining about being asked for a fair agreement. The real bullying is trying to get something from nothing from your well to do neighbor simply because that's the way it's always been done.

My heating oil company (I wonder if it's Canadian oil?) has been charging me a 30% premium for years under the guise of being a good community memeber and neighbors. That's crap, they supply a commodity and in today's global economy you need to be damn near best price AND best service. And how would it sound if they cried when I wanted to renegotiate.

The problem is Canada doesn't make anything the US can't make itself or can get elsewhere for cheaper. The most important thing Canada has to offer is a massive secure boarder. That's it, truthfully.

The people complaining have very obviously not been successful in business. Renegotiate a deal 4 years later, oh the humanity!! 4 years is an eternity. You sell us oil. If you want to keep doing that, we suggest you sweeten the deal. If you wanna cry about it, we suggest you find some other customers but know that we'll be just fine.

But don't you see:
If you don't understand why we need our [insert US industry workers here, e.g. auto workers, farmers, distillers, fishermen, etc.] to be able to make a living, then I got nothing for you.
How is that any different? You're just saying your farmers need to be protected but ours do not (with reciprocal tarrifs).

To be clear. NAFTA and the current trade agreement amount to money and jobs given to Canada and Mexico for non economic consideration. No one debates that. Canadians are just butthurt that the US is seeking to get more and give less. If this were a free trade situation (i.e. no trade agreement) Canada's GDP would be reduced SIGNIFICANTLY. No one is suggesting a free market in North America. It doesn't have to be emotional, just take what you're entitled to and no more. It's just business.

I'm not saying the US shouldn't give preference (and premium) to Canada or Canadian goods. They should. And I'm not saying i know what the right number is for what goods or services (like partnering on a secure border). That's way too complicated for me.

Where i come from if someone you deal with asks to renegotiate a deal you put together your best presentation and let the chips fall where they may. It's not emotional, regardless of whether its your brother, sister, neighbor, mother. If you have a good hand or value proposition, the deal will be pretty much fair. But, the outrage here at a business partner asking if they're maybe paying too much is telling. I guess we'll see. Doesn't help that Trump is a bafoon, obviously.

It's absolutely fantastic having Trump as president. Really enjoying it. Not just the policies either (aside from renaming shit which is moronic). But the entertainment factor is through the roof. It's like having the old cast of SNL back. Quite satisfying.

I remember last year at this time people were discussing if Biden would "get through the entire address" this year we have an entire Democratic Congress that won't stand and applaud for a 13 year old cancer survivor. Stay classy.

Another fantastic aspect of Trump being President (beyond the policies) is that he’s the epitome of classy day in and day out.
