Who do I cheer for in the World Cup?

One thing I can say for sure, it won't be USA. There are many, many individual Americans I like but as a country on the international stage, there is just no way. That would feel like cheering for King Eggnog in a capping contest. I just couldn't do it.

Italy. Somewhere along the line I picked up an impression they have a very dull style. I wouldn't want that.

My impression is Brazil would have the most fun style to watch. Although cheering for them would feel like cheering for the Yankees which wouldn't seem right.

I have a good friend from my recovery group who is Serbian. Maybe that. Maybe the home team, South Africa. Although it would be a dubious thing to cheer for someone with no chance at all.

Not sure. Still mulling.

Call me biased, but in this sport only in international competition, I will be on the U.S. side. This is the only sport that I will do this for. I was actually pulling for Canada when the olympic hockey finals where on, and in Bobsled, I had to go with the swedes, but when it comes to soccer, you have to pull for the U.S. Think about it how would you like to play a sport in which none of your fellow countrymen care if the sport even existed?, and if they somehow manage to pull of the championship, a very long shot to even get out of their bracket I would assume, but still hang with me here, the entire world will lose their effing minds and even hate us more than before. That is a role the U.S. is used to being in. Then to make matters worse, the country would forget about it about a week later because training camps for the NFL will be opening.

Correct! Their whole style of international play going back it seems forever has been one of not taking many chances and playing conservatively. Was boring to me until I really got into watching soccer with more knowledge of the game. Tried to be more offensive in the last few WC's.

But looking at the strikers on Italia's team this go around will have to play cautiously and rely on Buffon and defense. Consider that all of their FWs combined, only accounted for 35 international goals. Single guys from other teams have more than that!

Plus Pirlo could be less than full strength and Coach loves Gattuso, who Muddy you could compare to the best forechecker/penalty killer in hockey with very little offensive skills.

Lippi always liked to stick with the veterans but more than their share of newbies are on this squad. Four DF accounted for only 21 international appearances between them! Will be eager to see if they rise above with their international play? WC 2006 hero Grosso left off squad which to me was total surprise, had to be way out of form? Guy was clutch under pressure!

Looking for FW Gilardino and MF De Rossi to step up and be the spark for the team?

Portugal! For Bread and I, of course.

:hippie:

P.S. Where's the Portuguese flag smiley in this place?

They do have the hottest player on the planet!

No flag, unless they get out of the group? Only fair IMO.

This is where I really wish we had gamelive points to give out. Wonderful argument.
