Yeah, I can't see myself ever berating a shlep on Live Chat. If I am using Live Chat, it will be for some straight forward business. Like Hollywood gave me a little freeplay that they said had to be placed through Live Chat. That's what I was doing that led to this thread.

I treat it like a phone call. I say goodbye and want a goodbye in return. I don't wait forever for it, but I'll give it a quarter minute.

I'm all pleasant n' shit.

Those are for general inquiry or requests. If they are pissing me off or trying to steal my money or something I'm not so nice.

I've not been so nice to BetMania who has been slow playing me for two weeks now. Otherwise I'm surprisingly nice to them.

I'm usually nice with all service people. The mcdonald's cashier, the lad changing my tires, the supermarket bagboy, the comcast phone cs rep, etc. I would guest I'm in the top 5% courteous people see. I literally laugh in the face of people that get desperate waiting in lines, pretty fun watching them huff and puff and get suffocated over a little wait, usual pawn behavior.

The other day I went for a quick bank withdrawal and they were doing account checks after a terms policy change, so I go in to the desk and start talking with this rep, white dude but with an accent, I knew it was island boy so I guessed Barbados but was Trinidadian. And it went from there, we started talking for like 45 minutes, cricket world cup, immigration, about his kids back there, computer help, even went to the private cafeteria area and brought me back a croissant and coffee. Muddy you get more from people this way. Each person is a book, don't need to waste my time reading stupid published shit.

But the question here was more specific. Do you actually expect to exchange a formal goodbye at the end of a live chat? I believe there could be very nice courteous people (like us) who nevertheless don't see that as necessary. Sometimes excessive manners can just gum up the works.

Like if I was on Jeopardy, I would not say please every time I requested the next answer. I wouldn't say, "British Literature for 400 dollars please Alex," and then, "British Literature for 800 dollars please Alex," and so on. No, I would just say, "Literature for 4." "Lit for 8."

I know that is okay and Alex would not take offense because I have watched it so much. Alex prefers to keep things moving along. He's a dickcheese in many ways but I appreciate his sense of purpose.

I am less sure about Live Chatting customs and expectations.

But no I wasn't riding you. When I ride you, you'll know you been rode.

There was that contestant on Jeopardy last week who wasn't waiting for Alex to call out his name before giving his answer, so the "what is..." part was always drowned out by the sound of Alex saying the guy's name. It was awkward and rude. Fokker lost too. Karma works that way.
