and WHO in their right mind, at any point after the 60's, would name their kid Richard Johnson? COMMONNN
You know damn well and good people are gonna have all kinds of fun with that name at that kids expense.
I mean really.

Arch, My uncles name and his son/my cousin are both Richard, so growing up uncle was big dick, cousin was little dick.
Now my uncle has such a dirty mind, he's been called a sleeze a time or two, so your telling me when they were picking out a name
for their son, the fact they would get messed with never crossed their minds? Serious?

Matty, what about cock? I mean really, how is cock for a penis or a chicken?
:dunno:

Rog.....how did Edward get his big break?!?!
Like how did he get discovered.....

I never understood how you get jack from John. And my grandfather kept calling my gf Sarah, "sally." I thought he was nuts but its true, sally is the diminutive of Sarah. Go figure.

Did know that about Sarah, also, Jack/Jphn, I've heard of this too, or Bill from William? Why not just stick with Will...just as short and makes perfect sense.

Abbreviation or modification
A nickname can be a shortened or modified variation on a person's real name.
Contractions of longer names: Margaret to Greta.
Initials using the first letters of a person's first and last name.
Dropping a Letter: With many nicknames a letter, usually R, is dropped: Fanny from Francis, Walt from Walter.
Phonetic Spelling : Sometimes a nickname is created through the phonetic spelling of a name Len from Leonard.
Letter Swapping: During the middle ages, the letter R would often be swapped for either L or D: Hal from Harry, Molly from Mary, Sadie from Sarah, Robert: Hob, Dob, Rob, Bob and Nob, from Richard: Rick, Dick, and Hick; Bill from Will (which in turn comes from William), and Peg from Meg (which is derived from Margaret).
In the 19th century, frontier America, Mary and Molly were often given the nickname Polly.

Right, this is all true Kato, it just does not make much sense to me, especially in this day and age when you know the name can be made fun of
I would never chose a name for my child where I think there is a chance he/she would be picked on for it, though I suppose you could
consider that character building.

How, for the love of God, do people get one thing from another?

How the fok do you get DICK from RICHARD???????

If Richard is horny, you will get the dick - without asking.

what about cock? I mean really, how is cock for a penis or a chicken?

I would say ask the chicken, Plommer seriously doubts chickens enjoy having a cock shoved inside them.

A rooster, also known as a cockerel, cock or chanticleer, is a male chicken (Gallus gallus). The female is called a hen.
Immature male chickens less than one year old are called cockerels. The oldest term is "cock", from Old English coc. The term "rooster" originates from the US,[1] while in the United Kingdom and Ireland[2] the older term "cockerel" is more widely used. In North America, Australia and New Zealand "rooster" (a relative neologism) is almost always used, occasionally cockerel.[3][4] "Cock" is in general use as the name for a male of other species of bird, for example "Cock sparrow". "Roosting" is the action of perching aloft to sleep at night, and is done by both sexes. The rooster is polygamous, but cannot guard several nests of eggs at once. He guards the general area where his hens are nesting, and will attack other roosters that enter his territory. During the daytime, he usually sits on a high perch, usually 45 feet off the ground to serve as a lookout for his flock. He will sound a distinctive alarm call if predators are nearby.
