So pretty much google is controlling the internet and allowing only certain site to get recognized anymore? Which will come down to site owners having to buy their way in?

No. Right now good original content is being brought to the "surface" (i.e. first search results) by people linking to it. You and I and everyone on the Web are the supercomputer behind the most recent Google algorithm. It's a lot more complex than that especially now with personalized search results but it's basically what's happening right now.

Ok i got that. But still the site needs to be put out there, and linked, with social networking, article submissions, which leads back to basic SEO work....

The websites will not just appear in search engines with out the basic seo work, if it does...then im missing something entirely here

Sure, sure, but there's only so much you can do before the quality of the content itself takes over and the referencing/linking snowballs naturally by way of people recognizing its value.

If you don't have a site that someone wants to visit time and time again (and I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about the general population) then any marketing efforts you make - whatever you choose to do - will ultimately be futile.
