I bought my gf and I a FitBit over the holidays... It just does activity/sleep tracking... Does anyone else use any wearable tech? More and more guys are showing up at work with the smart watches now.....

Regular days work today involved 23,319 'steps'.. 11.03 miles walked...

So far, I find it very interesting. I could see getting addicted to completely quantifying my day to day existence in terms of exercise/sleep/activity/diet..

My general sleep pattern seems to be 1 - 2 hours then a shorth shift of some sort. On work nights I am a lot more restless it seems when I sleep.

There is another thread ..maybe Blitty started it? that could be merged here also. That's a lot of steps Mr. Q good for you. I think my fitbit bit the dust. It did go thru the washer but worked fine after that....now won't take a charge..just dead.

They are surprising accurate. Which model did you get Mr. Q?

Which model do you have Blitty? I had the fitbit "one" version. I decided against the flex for some reason..I think that was a thread here also. I may get the flex this time if I have to get a new one.

I have the flex. The double tap is a progress report. For sleep tracking, you have to initiate the sleep session on the phone in the app and then tap the bracelet quickly a few times til the lights dim. When you wake, you stop the sleep tracking on the phone and reset the bracelet for the next day by quick tapping.

I'm just going to weigh in that the wearable fitness tracker trend feels forced to me and I'm not predicting it to have any significant staying power. Other than having a gizmo to poke at and fill the occasional void, is there really a point?

I'm pretty sure people know if they're getting enough exercise or not, getting enough sleep or not. I'm not buying it.

I'm sure that, for a short time after getting one of these things, the average person will exercise more, so they can play with their new toy, but after the novelty wears off, I really doubt it.

I'm also going out on a limb and betting that reno cool will not be making an appearance in this thread.

I think the activity tracker is good for letting people know roughly how many calories they can burn in a day. It's not only for weight loss, but also weight gain.

For instance, my girlfriend realized that she was 700-900 calories short of what she should be consuming on her work days... now as a result of wearing the tracker she has more than doubled up on her food intake at work.

^^^ hard for people to grasp the concept that eating 5-7 smaller meals a day will speed up metabolism and is much better than eating 2-3 huge meals too...

your gf probably feels much better already

Well put RayRay. Indeed she does; other than the fact that we both had colds in the last week. I still cannot for the life of me, eat when I get up. I am just never hungry in the morning and am lucky if I can even eat a banana or a cup of oatmeal.
