With the passing of Bob Newhart, it got me thinking of the top 10 underrated sitcoms from the 70s-90s.
10. Night Court- With the revival of it, it loses some of its underrated luster but it was still a sitcom that didn’t get the real love it deserved. John Larroquette was an amazing man whore.
9. Welcome Back Kotter- A sitcom only on for a handful of seasons but the cast of characters and the debut of John Travolta for the most part are hard to forget.
8. WKRP In Cincinatti- Another sitcom that didn’t make 100 episodes but has one of the top 10 sitcom episodes EVER. The Thanksgiving episode is absolutely hilarious. It’s a must watch.
7. Soap- Groundbreaking for its time for its format and certain comedic troupes. Billy Crystal killed it.
6. Newhart- One of the best series finales ever and a cast of characters that made wanting to own an inn seem fun.
5. Police Squad- The TV series that spawned the Naked Gun movies. Not many knew it was a TV show and it’s just as funny on the small screen.
4. The Young Ones- Yes I threw in a British TV show. Crazy, warped and hilarious. Highly recommend.
3. Newsradio- A sitcom that never was a bonafide hit but stuck around long enough to introduce us to a slew of actors and actresses that found big success in other shows or facets in entertainment.
2. Wings- A Cheers style sitcom that took place at a Cape Cod airport. The two main actors who played brothers were great but the mechanic Lowell was my favorite character. Just a fun watch.
1. Northern Exposure- This show had it all. Quirky settings and characters. Amazing writing and a feeling after watching it like you were in a place you wanted to be. It’s a show that leaves you smiling and a warm feeling even all these years later.
