He just started working out for the first time in 5 years since stepping on the scale and seeing he was 50 pounds above his H.S. hockey weight.

Was trying to do 3 miles in 30 minutes but decided to move to the bike after 10 minutes (1 mile).

We rode 10 miles on a bike yesterday in 30 minutes. 50 pushups + 100 crunches.

Today we ran a mile + did 25 minutes on the bike before pulling his calf muscle. 60 pushups + 120 crunches.

Got a long way to go but we're hoping we lose about 10 pounds by the end of the August.

That reminds me, a 10lb bag of potatoes is on sale at the grocery store.

I need to pick up a bag.

Be way more concerned about the things you put in your mouth than how much working out you're doing

Seriously though. Trust me. If you're 50 pounds above your H.S. hockey weight, the weight will FALL off if you make hugh changes in your diet.

Eat six times a day. Cut out processed foods (cheese/bread) and stuff your face with veggies and protein. Make egg whites, almonds, macadamia nuts, turkey and blueberries your friend.

And don't hesitate to ask me any questions.

Just burn more calories than you take in.

Or

Take in way less empty calories than you've been taking in while taking in more productive calories

:buddy:

We're talking about losing weight. Whether a calorie is nutritional or not is irrelevant.

3500 calories equals approximately 1 pound of fat. Burn off 175,000 more calories than you take in and you lose 50 pounds.

Pretty simple.

Something tells Potato that lunch is where he went wrong.

Today's meal...

Breakfast: OJ, Honey Nut Cherrios (220 calories)
Lunch: Doritos, Ch Milk, Half of a PB (no J) sandwich (610 calories)
Dinner: "Cheesy Chicken" ... Chicken, Corn, Broccoli, Carrots, Cheesy noodles, 34 oz of water (210 calories)

Total calories: 1040
Body burns (60%): 624
Potato needs to burn at least: 416 (15 miles on the bike, or 4 miles running)

Is Potato right with these calculations, amateur dietitians?

Also consumed 34 additional ounces of water on the side. Both before the workout and after.

no, that cannot possibly be right. you should be consuming and burning roughly double that caloric amount (depending on lean body mass percentage).

how tall are you and what do you weigh? unless you are 120 pounds or less and lead a sedentary lifestyle, there is no way youre only burning 640 calories per day.

continuing to eat only 1040 calories per day would result in massive, rapid weight loss to the point that it would not be healthy.

Monitoring what you put in your mouth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> EV than jogging on a treadmill for 3 hours a day

I'm not totally discounting cardio and resistance training but Potato will lose WAY more weight WAY faster if he drastically changes the foods that he eats.

He did not get 50 pounds above his H.S. hockey weight because he stopped taking long walks. He got 50 pounds overweight by eating empty calories that his body stored as fat.

So evidently it's not as simple as you would make it out to be.

We need sleep right now though and we will address this mess tommorow
