Comma in that spot is correct according to the classical rules of punctuation as I learned them. It would actually be quite an act of rebellion to leave it out according to Mrs. Coleman.

But people do. The state of punctuation is all over the place now. As it should be IMO.

Rules? I don't care for your rules.

Don't even get me started on the Oxford comma.

I'm a big proponent of the Oxford comma.

You like the Oxford comma but not that comma? You are making my head spin.

I LOVE the oxford comma. It bugs me when it is omitted, athough I understand that it is considered proper either way.. It just seems like there should be a logical pause there. It doesn't seem to be necessary in "Shut up, Steve."

Holy shit. It looks like it may be proper to use the comma in a 3 word direct address after all. THAT blows my mind. Apologies to Jean Louis. Seriously...that's crazy. I am going to have to find another article to support my position. MY mind is blown!

Do you need one in Happy Birthday, Steve? Or is that different because Happy is serving as an adjective. Shit. I'm confusing myself.

What's going on, weather's nice today.

What's everyone up to.

Work here, same old. Sandwich for lunch I guess. Probably some cheese and crackers. Going to check on the po box in a bit.

You should join me.

Hey Brother Bacon,
Thanks for the indirect invite. Eakins to coach the Flyers? At one time, he was considered the best up-and-coming coach..... that is until he took the Edmonton job. I doubt he would make a difference in Philly, but Hextall is very high on him. Must be a reason.

A couple times lately I have heard variations of that saying: you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. And then I just used it.

Truth is though ---> bullshit. I could put toothpaste back in a tube. No problem at all. Just takes a little patience.

Humans in general have so little patience that sayings like that can become accepted as meaningful despite being total crap.

It's like, a watched pot never boils.

Yes it does. Just fucking wait.

I would love to see a video of you putting toothpaste back in the tube. I'm trying to envision how that would go. You could also do one of watching a pot boil. A whole collection of videos disproving common sayings..

What is the word I'm looking for-you know...those "A stitch in time saves nine" "A penny saved is a penny earned" type phrases? There is a name for them...and it's escaping me.
