I never understood the "die alone" thing. Can someone explain it? It seems to me when you're dying, that's the one time it would be best to be left alone. Living alone is the bad thing to have to deal with.

Or, do people mean like, being in pain, and having no one there to help you and get nurses and stuff?

Or, do people mean it as a metaphor for living alone. That's how people seem to mean it. Like, if you never get married, then you "die alone". But if you do get married, and then your spouse dies, and then you die 2 months later, presumably that doesn't count as having "died alone".

What do people mean by "dying alone"? If your spouse dies 2 months before you, does that count as "dying alone"? What if you never get married but you are close to your other relatives and they are at the hospital when you are dying. Does that count as "dying alone"??

Me, I don't want to die "in pain". But I don't see what people mean when they say "alone".

Please explain.

interesting. I think if I had to choose a few years of life to be alone, I would choose the ones at the end. Much worse to be alone when you are younger.

Although if you are factoring in pain avoidance, that's when I can see that it would be awful to be alone and old. But like I said, that has as much to do with luck as anything else. People seem to use it implying that someone will never get married. But if you get married and your spouse dies two months before you, you still die alone.

Wouldn't it be much more "crushing" to say "you will spend the next week alone"?
