He played one game since his run to the finals last year.

Now we have this.

Talk about getting injured at the wrong time.

Leighton clears waivers, sent down

PHILADELPHIA (AP)Goaltender Michael Leighton(notes) cleared waivers on Tuesday, and was sent to the Philadelphia Flyers AHL affiliate.

Leighton, 29, a standout during the Flyers run to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, was placed on waivers by Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren on Monday. Holmgren admitted Monday in a conference call that he first looked to trade Leighton without any success, before coming to his decision.

Leighton will play for the Adirondack Phantoms for the foreseeable future, while the Flyers move on with Brian Boucher(notes) and Sergei Bobrovsky(notes).

The Flyers, tied for first place in the Atlantic Division with Pittsburgh, will take on the New Jersey Devils in Newark on Thursday.

Leighton's not that good, neither is Boucher. Flyers were pretty hot and playing great team defence at the right time during last years playoffs. There's a reason those guys have bounced around and been waived.

I agree. Bobsy could be the future though, and Boucher is a formidable backup behind those big bodies.

I wish Leights all the breast.

Stevie, I kinda feel bad for him too cause of what he did to get the Flyers to the finals. But we both know he is indeed just a career backup who showed what he is over the long haul with the final goal of last season.

Nobody picked him up from waivers? At least he got a decent 2 year contract for a few bucks. Who knows one of the 2 gets hurt and he's back at it again. :greencheck:

Nobody picked him up because he really isn't a good goalie. He never really stole any games for Philly in last year's playoffs. He didn't do anything (by himself that is) to get the Flyers deep into the playoffs. Philly's D and forwards played very well in front of him.

Stealing games is the key for mediocre teams like my Leafs. Sadly, we have a legit #1 who has health/injury issues and a guy we call Monster who isn't getting it done. Pilly is not a mediocre team. D men like Pronger (in last years playoffs) and offensive forward like Giroux (inlast years playoffs) are key pieces to a team's success.

I always wanted your goalie in black and roange, I cannot remember his name right now.

But yes, depth wins come playof time so you have to like our chances.
