I was just driving home and listening to the local classic rock radio station. After the commercial, they played Master of Puppets by Metallica. I had to double-check the station to make sure, but sure as shit, they were playing Metallica on the "oldies" station. I had to puke in my mouth a little bit. Are we at a stage in time where late 80's and 90's music is played on the "oldies" station? To me, most of the music from that era is disposable music. It doesn't ever deserve to be "classic." Bands like Nirvana, Metallica, Guns n Roses, NIN, etc. were so commercialized and overplayed. Does this music really start replacing bands like the Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc.? If so, it's a cold day in Hell.

The latter bands you mentioned were classic rock in the 80's and still are today, so they're not going anywhere. It's actually impressive how the same stations have been playing the same songs for so long.

dude, theyve been playing that stuff on oldies and classic rock stations for awhile now. as time goes on, bands like alice in chains or nirvana eventually must be considered old.

Metallica after Hotel California just seems a bit out of place. Chuck Berry and Elvis music is old too. It doesn't mean they play it on a classic rock station, however.
