I guess Facebook advertising really works. I noticed a few weeks back that I started seeing ads for Zoosk (dating site) and it said there were 9.2 million members. Since then I have noticed a gradual climb in that number and right now it is saying 11.8 million.

That is a heck of a jump in a short period of time.

Or maybe they are just full of shit with these numbers???

I actually tried Zoosk for awhile. Of all the sites I looked at, I found the selection of women to be the weakest.

Like I thought, 'Zoosk is probably not the greatest name because it makes you think zoo and you probably don't want to emphasize the resemblance between the women and a bunch of animals.'

But maybe things are picking up.

Does Canada even have 11.8 million women?

I don't know what that has to do with the price of tea in Saskatchewan but yes.

For the hell of it, I just googled zoosk and I learned a few things.

1) Advertising on Facebook is not a new thing by any means. It actually started as a Facebook App in 2007.

2) A review I looked at lists its membership as over 50 million.

So I don't know what any of this has meant. :dunno:

By the way, I hope I'm not bothering anyone by using you as a lifeline/cheat in various games. I don't expect you to do anything about it. Just ignore the messages when they come up. It's just helpful to use a name while in mid-game.

But if I am bothering anyone, let me know and I will cease and desist.

One thing I am unclear on: is there some kind of monetary thing about getting people to "like" your Facebook posts. I have been noticing increasing desperation (whoring?) for "likes".

There was some number puzzle that showed up on my page today and it says to click like if you can solve it. Sure I can solve it but who cares if I click like? What are the likes doing for the person who copied it there?

Even worse, there was some thing recently . . . I can't remember the exact details and it's not there now . . . but it was about war vets and it said click "like" if you appreciate service people or don't if you don't care if they live or die.

(It wasn't that exactly but that was the spirit of it.)

Serious question: I know there is some monetary aspect to getting views on YouTube but is there some tangible reward on Facebook for "likes"?

Companies/organizations are just trying to build an audience for their marketing material/e-commerce initiatives. More likes = more eyeballs for future ad campaigns. That's all.

FB just gave me a free 50 bucks worth of ads this morning - I will use that money to promote content, i.e. have it seen by more people than otherwise would be exposed to it. That's another way of building an audience. (We normally don't spend any money, nor do we troll for "likes". We just post shit and try to engage people.)
