I saw the movie Wild not long ago. True story of a woman, portrayed by Reese Witherspoon, who hikes the PCT.

Thing is though, it's not just literal, it is a metaphor. It is a literally a difficult journey, but it also uses the difficult journey as a metaphor for a difficult journey.
