Russian doping scandal: Russian athletics suspended from sport after overwhelming vote by IAAF over doping allegations

Athletics' governing body has voted overwhelmingly to suspend Russia from the sport for widespread, state-sponsored doping and the ban will include the 2016 Olympics unless the country can demonstrate a major change in their approach and controls.

After a three-hour teleconference on Saturday hosted by its president Sebastian Coe, the International Association of Athletics Federations' (IAAF) council voted 22-1 in favour of the sanction, with the Russian representative not able to vote.
 
Russia's response has not been as weaselly as I anticipated though. Not a lot of playing of the victim card, and only a bit of recreational finger-pointing. A key figure in Russian anti-doping has been dispatched and internal investigations are supposedly being launched.

No threatened boycotts or retaliation or taking of our ball and going home. So I guess we'll see.

Russian Under-18 Team Suspended in Major Doping Scandal

According to Russian sports writer Slava Malamud, the entire Russian Under-18 hockey team has been suspended in the largest doping scandal in hockey history.

Per Malamud, the team are victim to the first Meldonium scandal in Russian hockey. The roster of players had not been confirmed officially, but had included NHL Draft prospects German Rubtsov, Vladislav Sukhachyov and Mikhail Berdin, among others.

There is no word yet as to if it affects Russian prospects currently playing in the Canadian Hockey League.

The Under-18 coach was fired and the team was replaced by Under-17 prospects for the tournament.
 
so this is the same meldonium they accidentally banned a couple of months ago because they knew Russians use it? And now it's a HUGH scandal. Russian admin not sophisticated enough to use the proper doping methods.

Russia should disassociate itself from Western system as much as possible.
