Calculate rent + car payments if any + insurance + gas + repairs.

I pay 975 for my half of the rent plus 30-40 a month in subway tokens + maybe 25 in cabs. That is it.

The only problem is that it's difficult to build equity in a big city outside of expensive, seemingly overpriced condos. Where you're paying upwards of $2k per month on an apartment, you could be building equity in a house.

Yeah, the price-rent ratio is all out of whack here. A 600sq ft 1br+den is ~400k. GF and I can't really afford that, and that's before taking into account maintenance fees and property taxes, plus it's way too small to raise a family in.

And the suburbs just aren't an option. Traffic is craptastic. If I ever have to spend 3 hours a day commuting, Ima shoot myself in the face.

Go 401k. I got nothing else.

Do they have any trains that go into the city?

When I worked in Chicago, I'd just take the train in from the burbs. Screw traffic.

McBall's apparently with all the excitement of the new baby and probable lack of sleep you have forgotten my inability to perform certain aspects of online life such as searches and certain life functions such as memory recall.
