Random thoughts

I am not particularly enthusiastic about getting old but there is one plus. It has to do with entertainments (movies, books, TV shows etc.) I find that I can see a title of something I saw/read a long time ago - and I will have some kind of impression of whether I liked it or not - and yet, when it comes to watching it, it has been so long since I saw it, I won't remember all the details so it's almost like watching it for the first time.

Case in point, last night I had The Cider House Rules available for viewing. I saw it when it came out and remember finding it good. Lasse Halstrom, Michael Caine - yeah I definitely enjoyed that. So I put it on. But it wasn't like watching a rerun. Because it had been 12 years, I could only remember a few major details and had completely forgotten the journey. It was almost like watching a new movie.

It was good. It was like getting a recommendation from the most reliable critic for me in the world - me - and it comes through.

~8 years seems to be the magic cut-off where a movie becomes very close to watching it for the first time again.

I could probably go the rest of my life without ever watching an actual new movie. I don't have to ever risk a clunker again. I don't want to do that but Ima just saying.

I just watched True Grit yesterday and it sucked. I couldn't understand what they were trying to do with the dialog in the movie. It was like they went out of their way to use proper English and correct form. It seemed forced to me. Also the girl character just didn't feel right. I mean the actress played a very strong role but she was supposed to be 14 years old. While I have met some very mature teenagers over the years I find it unrealistic that someone so young could have so much hoopspa.

I was never a John Wayne fan but I think his version was better than this new one.

i'm ok with that, are you ok with that?

I think its natural. thoughts are random and can go ANYWHERE

they don't need to be defined and categorized all the time.

just let the thoughts roam wherever, that's what I say

I have only seen the old version and am still waiting for my copy of the new version to show up from zip.ca. Since there is a mail strike going on right now, it may be awhile.

I actually just saw the John Wayne version fairly recently. I gave it a 6/10 rating at imdb - which is pretty good - but I have to say that John Wayne winning the Oscar for his performance is near the top of my list of all-time bad Oscar decisions.

Anyway, my main point was supposed to be that at least there is one thing about getting old that ain't so bad.

Or maybe I was unwittingly making the point that Alzheimers is setting in for me.

I was recording an acoustic version (audio only) of I'm On Fire by The Boss and a motorcycle drove by just as I was getting to the change. I left it in, sounds pretty cool.
