wondering with Father's Day approaching could someone be trying to avoid hearing a little one out there knocking on their door wanting to say "Da-Da?" The timeline fits! :panic:

Sorry I vanished. Ended up on the phone with my boss for over an hour and had a nap after as it was the middle of the night for me.

It's a long, bloody stupid story that I won't bore you with but basically I work for a major film corporation and my boss is trying to force me to interview this 16yo piano prodigy farm boy on a talent show so we can attempt to attach him to our film and tv divisions, and maybe our music division internationally.

I was going to ask you to look at the kid's videos and see if you can pick up any parts that he may be lifting from classical works as a few people claim. I have zero musical knowledge other than I enjoy listening to it, my boss has less than me, and he's not allowing me access to our music division for various reasons. So if he makes me do this I'm literally winging it. But if I screw it up then I'm fucked because the kid, if legit, is going to be a pretty big deal.

My company is already pissed that I'm still officially on mat leave and have not moved back to L.A. or the next God forsaken country they want me to move to, so I'm positive that this is my boss' passive aggressive way of letting me know that he's still very angry despite claiming to be over it. No other reason for making me do this. I work in film, not music, and we have a massive music division with a large presence here in Australia. Many other people who would be more suited to this.

But I'm waiting a call back from him either today or tomorrow so I'll wait to make sure I'm stuck with doing this before begging for your help. He's supposedly looking for someone else to do it although he could just pick up his damn phone and find 50 people more capable than myself.
 
I would be glad to give it a listen and see what I could pick out. That would be a fun kind of puzzle for me.

From your end, I wouldn't want any major stakes riding on my results. I have a basic Jeopardy type of surface knowledge of classical music, but I am far from a world-class in-depth expert.
 
I've read Shari's explanation a couple of times now and it just sounds so incredulous to me. I mean if you have no investigative experience or musical training how could you be expected to decipher what is original and what is lifted?

Either your boss is a true idiot or you stepped up and volunteered only to realize it was beyond your capability or the guy is definitely trying to give you an opportunity to fail to avoid a wrongful termination suit. Course there is still some question about terminating someone for being tasked with something outside their job title.

Shari, do you get your assignments in writing?
