If someone can quit absolutely everything all at once and go straight to sainthood then that would be great. More power to them. But my observation has been that most addicts need to take it in steps.

I know I tried to quit smoking cigarettes early in sobriety - and I almost went nuts. Not so much from a compulsion to smoke but a compulsion to drink and get high. It was like some kind of wiring thing. My brain insisted I had to be destroying myself somehow.

So I started smoking again and that settled down. That was fine. The consequences of cigarettes were a tiny fraction of alcohol.

And then I was able to quit smoking later - and now it's been like 24 years.

You know I'm not one to brag but Cami said she wanted Duritos so not only did I run out and grab her some Duritos but I got her this HUGH variety pack with three other varieties of snacks in it. The friendly lady at the DG recommended a 50 cent fake rose and which was damn cool and the lady next to me wanted to cover the three pennies to make it exact change. Not only is Cami happy but me and those two ladies had a shared moment and they see me as sweet.

So yeah, that shit just happened.

This pope is a freak with the saying sensible stuff.

Like the dude has stepped up and said that the idea of the earth being created by an amazing superman with a magic wand is ridiculous - which has been kind of the fundamental concept of Christianity - and all religions going back millenia that Christianity was ripped off from.

Magic wand is a pretty central concept. Pope says pfft.

What next? Is he going to say, like, of course we don't actually know what happens after death. All that stuff is obviously just wishful thinking.

He seems like he actually could be that rational.

I am here to report as promised on the 50/50 mix of yoohoo and coffee.

In short, not great. Like I occasionally delve into the realm of 50/50 hot chocolate and coffee. Generally talkin' Tim Hortons ---> that is MUCH better.

Before trying the mix, I had a sip of the yoohoo and it is just a kinda watery chocolate drink. The mix is what you'd expect from that. Thin. Needed to add sugar. Cream would have been good too but I only have milk so went with that.

Drinkable but not great.

“Anyone who knows anything about Catholic history knows that a statement like this is nothing new. Pope Pius XII wrote an encyclical ‘Humani Generis’ in 1950 affirming that there was no conflict between evolution and Catholic faith,” she wrote. “Pope John Paul II reaffirmed that, stressing that evolution was more than a hypothesis, in 1996. Pope Benedict XVI hosted a conference on the nuances of creation and evolution in 2006.”
