They traded the rights for Pronger to Arizona. Should be interesting.

That's just for relief of his 4.9 mil contract the next couple of seasons, he isn't coming back. I think Hextall actually did well here, Grossman isn't very good.

Asked why the Coyotes were giving up on Gagner, Maloney said: "We made the decision that it just wasn't working and we could bring in a younger player with the energy we need."

At least Maloney settled a few matters under his control at the Draft. He picked up a serviceable player in Grossman and a contract to get his team to the cap floor. He added players to the organization with picks at Sunrise, Fla. And he answered questions by selecting center Dylan Strome third overall rather than trading the pick.

Pronger, 40, was a Norris- and Hart-winning defenseman with great skill and talent at 6-6. He helped the Oilers reach the Cup finals in 2006 and won with the Ducks in '07. But injuries, including a stick to the eye and a broken wrist that require the shortening of a bone, were the cost he paid for playing nearly 30 minutes a game in his prime.

The Coyotes were through with Gagner and considered buying out his $3.2 million contract. Now they have $9 million in cap space, and their salary total includes two players no longer on the roster Mike Ribeiro, who was bought out, and Keith Yandle, who was traded to the Rangers after Maloney agreed to keep part of his salary.

While Maloney attempts to negotiate caponomics and build a roster, Coyotes ownership must find a place for the team to play. Glendale, Ariz., scotched the team's lease on Gila River Arena and talks are under way that might keep the team in the building.

This much is certain: Pronger won't be on the roster wherever they play.

The NBA salary cap is going to go hog wild over the next few years due to new TV money.

Currently ~63 million, it is expected to be around $108 million in 3 years.

Great time for teams to sign just about anyone to any kind of long-term deal. Sign some dopey scrub to a 6 year deal at 10 million per ---> he will be underpaid by the end of it.

Mind you, the players are also aware of what's coming so they won't sign those deals.
