Matty do you remember the referendum in 1995 for an independent Quebec?

Yes
2,308,36049.42%

No
2,362,64850.58%

Voting took place on 30 October 1995, and featured the largest voter turnout in Quebec's history (93.52%). The "No" option carried by a margin of 54,288 votes, receiving 50.58% of the votes cast.

Only 54k votes from 4,671,008 saved Canada from losing Quebec.

I remember it well. I wasn't old enough to vote, only 16, but it was a huge deal at the time. I don't know what I would've voted if I had been of age, I remember being torn by the concept of separation. I suspect that I would've ended up voting No.

English Canada isn't a threat to Quebecois identity. The Internet is. (Of course, the referendum was pre-mainstream-Internet, but I remember feeling like Anglo Canada had little influence on my daily life as a Frenchie. And I was a fan of Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour and Ed Belfour and all these gutsy Canadian hockey blokes. lol)
