Great player. Represented Canada many times including the Gold Medal team from the Salt Lake City Olympics.

He had great stats as is, but he will always be one of those guys where you have to wonder what could have been but for the injuries.

I loved this kid growing up. I got about 50 Kariya RC they are worth jack shit. I have a Umaine autograph Kariya jersey in my living room, it is one of my 5 favorite things I own.

It is a sad that his career ended the way it did.

His freshman year in college, was the most domintating college performance ever.

Hard to say. I keep hearing everyone whining how Pavel Bure should be in - and Kariya has 210 more points. Kariya has just shy of 1000 points - a lot more than many forwards who are in.

Kariya averaged exactly 1 point per game. Kariya's stats http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2640

Bure averaged 1.1 points per game. Bure's stats http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=662

Kariya was a very good player, but not a great player. Bure was explosive. If this dude didn't have bad knees he would have ranked as one of the best goal scorers in the game......period.

And if Kariya didn't have concussions he would have 500 more points than Bure and be way further up the scoring list.

Ifs and buts. You can only judge based on the actual career.

It's not a good comparison anyway since Bure is not a Hall of Famer. Kariya's career statistics do compare favorably to many who are. 1000 points is an important milestone and he is just a hair shy.

Neither did Neely. And besides, it's the Hockey Hall of Fame not the NHL Hall of Fame. People forget this all the time.

might as well be the NHL. They got a bunch of Mudcats, Plommers and Don Cherry's working up there I'm sure. They only throw in a few token Europeans because they happen to be better than 99.9% of the North American members.
