Most young Americans entering university this year think that Beethoven's a dog

Also, I get your angle here. I get the laughing cow and all. But I'd bet you that young Africans/South Americans/Canadians in the same age bracket might be just as clueless on such matters.

Can you say without a doubt in your mind that this would happen ONLY in America? I demand a little truth in advertising around here!!!

Almost time for a beer.

fecal bacteria

WEST TISBURY - Welcome to Martha’s Vineyard, Mr. President - but don’t go in the water!

President Obama, who took a plunge in the Gulf last week to show Americans it was safe to swim the oil spill-plagued area, arrived on this supposedly pristine island yesterday in the midst of a rash of bacteria-induced beach closings.

Portions of Tisbury Great Pond, the salt-water lagoon fronting the first family’s vacation estate Blue Heron Farm, were closed earlier this week due to high levels of enterococci, an indicator that the water is contaminated with fecal coliform bacteria. Ew.

I will take that bet for the Beethoven question alone. They asked people who were about to enter university, people who are supposed to be intellectually curious. Africans and South Americans are a mortal lock to beat the Americans soundly because they probably aren't exposed nearly as much to Hollywood culture. It would be interesting to ask Canadians though. I still think the Americans get thoroughly humiliated.

But did anyone pose this question to college-bound kids in the Easter Islands? Finland? How can we say ONLY in America? I don't get it.

Matty if you could party with Beethoven the musical genius or Beethoven the naughty St. Bernard, which one would you choose and why?

Gimme the dog, I'm not partying with a grumpy old deaf guy.

Breadipoo you have a point with those general socio-political questions, but the confusion over Beethoven is mind-boggling. It's not like the guy died just 30 years ago or that he's been forgotten and replaced with newer, hipper classical music geniuses.

Matty that is an excellent point. It's not comparable to the Clint Eastwood one I saw in the same article (kids only know him as a director, not as Dirty Harry).

What's wrong with these fucking imbeciles?

Matty I wish you were here to go to the world's largest indoor flea market to see Elvis today.

Matty would you rather party with Elvis or Kevin Bacon?
